UC DAVIS HOSTS NO. 20/23 CAL, TRAVELS TO CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE
UC Davis (16-19, 2-7 Big West) hosts No. 20/23 Cal (23-14, 8-7 Pac-10) Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. for a midweek matchup at Dobbins Stadium... The Aggies then travel south to take on Cal State Northridge (21-17, 3-6 Big West) in a three-game conference series beginning Friday at 3 p.m... Saturday and Sunday's games will start at 1 p.m... All three games will be played at Matador Field.

Cal, ranked 20th nationally by Collegiate Baseball and 23rd by Baseball America, suffered a weekend sweep at the hands of No. 22 Stanford to move to 23-14 overall and 8-7 in Pac-10 play... The Golden Bears are led by junior outfielder Mark Canha who is batting .379 and leads the team in hits (53), runs (36) and RBI (47)... Canha's 47 RBI also lead the Pac-10... Sophomore shortstop Marcus Semien went 6-for-9 with four doubles and a pair of RBI against Stanford last week... He also went 4-for-4 with two doubles Sunday... Semien is batting .331 with 13 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 24 RBI on the year... As a team, the Bears are third in the Pac-10 in batting average, runs, hits, and RBI and rank second in doubles with 92.

Daniel Cepin went 5-for-5 with three RBI and a run while Nathan Slater pitched six innings and struck out four to lead UC Davis to an 8-0 victory over Cal Feb. 24 at Evans Diamond... Eric Johnson went 3-for-5 with one run and two RBI... For Cal, catcher Chadd Krist was 2-for-3 with a double.
AN AGGIE CONNECTION
Cal volunteer assistant coach Brad Sanfilippo is in his first season with the Bears, but was a three-year starter as an outfielder for UC Davis from 1996-98... He batted .349 as a sophomore, .350 as a junior and 3.20 as a senior... He recorded five triples and 56 runs in 1997 which rank him in the top-ten in single-season bests in the Aggie record books... In addition, Sanfilippo was named a first-team Western District GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American.
SCOUTING CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE
The Matadors enter the weekend with a 21-17 overall record and are 3-6 in Big West play after dropping 2-of-3 to Pacific last weekend... Junior Justin DeMarco leads the team with a .368 batting average and has recorded 13 doubles and 23 RBI... Junior Ryan Pineda is the only Matador to have started all 38 games and leads the team in runs (41), home runs (10) and RBI (44)... Pineda has stolen 20 bases in 21 attempts, which is second in the Big West and 53rd nationally.
LAST MEETING: MAY 22-24, 2009
After dropping the first of the three-game series, UC Davis picked up two straight walk-off wins to take the series from Cal State Northridge at Dobbins Stadium... In the first game, the Matadors held off a two late rallies by the Aggies to take a 4-3 win... UC Davis evened the series when Eric Johnson hit a pinch-hit walk-off single to finish off a three-run Aggie rally in the ninth inning and give UC Davis the 6-5 win... UC Davis and Cal State Northridge went to extra innings in the final game, but the Aggies did it again as Scott Heylman's walk-off single in the tenth gave UC Davis the 4-3 win and the series.
RECAP: UC IRVINE SWEEPS UC DAVIS
UC Irvine held UC Davis to only five runs over the three-game conference series last weekend... Behind strong pitching, the Anteaters took three convincing wins and were anchored by Christian Bergman's complete game one-hitter Saturday... UC Davis fell 8-1 Friday, 13-0 Saturday and 10-4 Sunday.
Wednesday's game against Cal marks the eighth time in 2010 that UC Davis has been forced to shift a game due to inclement weather... The Aggies have played three doubleheaders and are 3-3 on days in which the team has played two games in one day... The Apr. 5 matchup at Nevada has been postponed twice... Game times during the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament hosted by Santa Clara and San Jose were also adjusted to accomodate rain.
HEYLMAN LEADS AGGIES AGAINST UC IRVINE
Scott Heylman emerged as UC Davis' biggest hitter last weekend against UC Irvine... The junior infielder went 3-for-10 and two of his three hits included a triple Friday and his first career home run Sunday... He posted three of the team's five total runs and recorded team-highs in batting average (.300), slugging percentage (.800) and on-base percentage (.364).
SLATER OFFERING SOME RELIEF
Sophomore lefty Nathan Slater held UC Irvine to only two earned runs on one hit in 4.2 relief innings Sunday... Upon entering the game in the fifth inning, Slater immediately retired the side with a strike out and two forced ground outs... After giving up a single in the top of the sixth, Slater would go on to retire the next ten straight batters... Slater now holds a 6.25 ERA and has struck out 31 batters in 36 innings of work.
JOHNSON PERFECT IN THE FIELD
Sophomore Eric Johnson has recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage and has yet to commit an error in his duties at first base... Johnson has recorded double-digit putouts 11 times, including a season-high 16 against San Jose State Apr. 14... His 298 total putouts ranks fifth in the Big West... In addition, Johnson has fielded 26 double plays which is tied for fifth in the conference.
AGGIES AMONGST BIG WEST LEADERS
David Popkins is second in the Big West in on base percentage (.476)... Eric Johnson ranks second in hit by pitch with 14... Seth Batty's 10 stolen bases are fifth-best in the conference and his 12 attempts are seventh... Dayne Quist is holding opponents to a .268 batting average which ranks him seventh... The sophomore has thrown 64.2 innings, seventh-most in the league... His 51 strike outs are also seventh while he ranks third in batters struck out looking (20)... He has picked off four runners which is second-most... Matthew Lewis' four saves are tied for third with two other Big West pitchers... Eric Johnson ranks fifth in total putouts (298) and fifth in double plays fielded with 26... Justin Schafer and Scott Heylman rank fifth and seventh, respectively in assists... Schafer has recorded 101 while Heylman has posted 100...
UC DAVIS AT NEVADA POSTPONED
Due to inclement weather in the Reno area Tuesday, UC Davis' matchup at Nevada has been rescheduled... The Aggies and the Wolf Pack will now meet May 18 at 6 p.m. at Peccole Park.

UC Davis will hit the road for a midweek game at Santa Clara Wednesday, May 5 at 6 p.m. before hosting Pacific for three games beginning May 7.
