DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis junior Scott Kalush hit .455 with three runs scored and seven RBI to earn Big West Conference Player of the Week honors for the first time in his UC Davis career, it was announced Monday by the conference office.
Kalush led UC Davis to its first series sweep of the season as the Aggies topped Cal State Northridge in three games at Dobbins Stadium over the weekend.
In the second inning of the series opener on Friday, Kalush blasted an 0-2 pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam to give UC Davis a quick 4-0 lead the Aggies would never relinquish in an eventual 9-3 victory. It was the first grand slam of his career and the first for an Aggie since Daniel Descalso hit one on May 5, 2007.
The catcher drove in two more runs with a single and a double, finishing the game with a career-high six RBI.
On Saturday, Kalush's second home run of the series was a solo shot in the fifth. It was his only hit of the game.
The weekly honor is the first for Kalush in his Aggie career and marks the second time UC Davis has been honored in 2011 as Scott Heylman won the award on Apr. 11.
UC Davis closes a five-game homestand by hosting San Jose State on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Dobbins Stadium.
