UC DAVIS AT SANTA CLARA, HOSTS PACIFIC
UC Davis (19-20, 4-8 Big West) will take on Santa Clara (18-23, 4-10 WCC) in a midweek nonconference game Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Stephen Schott Stadium... The Aggies then return to Dobbins Stadium to host Pacific (26-16, 8-7 Big West) for a three-game series... First pitch for Friday is set for 2:30 p.m. and will be followed by games Saturday and Sunday... Both are set to start at 1 p.m.
Santa Clara will provide live stat coverage through Gametracker... SCOUTING SANTA CLARA
Santa Clara currently sits at 18-23 overall after a series sweep over Gonzaga last weekend... The Broncos snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 9-3 upset over then-No. 18 Stanford Apr. 26, but the Cardinal avenged the loss with an 8-3 win Monday... Junior Curtis Wagner leads Santa Clara with a .400 batting average and holds the team lead in runs with 43... All-American Tommy Medica leads the Broncos in hits (67), home runs (10), RBI (47) and stolen bases (12)... He, along with Wagner and infielder Geoff Klein, has posted 15 doubles... Medica earned West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week honors after posting a .391 average to go along with seven runs and five home runs over the Broncos' last five games, including three homers against Stanford Apr. 26... In games as of Apr. 29, Santa Clara led the WCC with a .316 batting average.

UC Davis and Santa Clara last met Mar. 13 as part of the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament, co-hosted by Santa Clara and San Jose State... UC Davis held off a strong late rally by Santa Clara to defeat the Broncos 8-7... The Aggies held a comfortable 8-2 lead entering the bottom of the ninth, but Santa Clara collected five runs before Matt Derr struck out the final two batters to close out the game for UC Davis... David Popkins led the Aggie offense, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run to go with a triple.
Pacific handed No. 13 Cal State Fullerton its third conference loss of the year Sunday with an 18-10 win, but fell in the first two games of the series to move to 26-16 overall and 8-7 in Big West action... The Tigers are led by junior J.B. Brown who owns a .423 batting average, second highest in the conference... Brown also leads the team in hits with 71 which is also second-most in the Big West and has recorded 33 runs and 26 RBI... Senior third baseman Mike Walker leads the team in RBI (38) and home runs (8) while Bret Christopher has recorded 11 stolen bases in 14 attempts... Friday's starting pitcher Marcus Pointer is holding opposing batters to a .261 average and has pitched 76.2 innings, third-most in the conference.

Pacific swept UC Davis in the conference-opening series for both teams at Klein Family Field in Stockton, Calif... In the first game, Jared Thompson went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a game-high three runs in the 8-4 loss... Ty Kelly posted three hits, including two doubles for UC Davis in the second game, but the Tigers took an 11-7 win... Kelly doubled twice and scored three runs in the final game, but Pacific used a six-run seventh inning to win 15-9 and take the series sweep.
RECAP: UC DAVIS TAKES 2-OF-3 FROM CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE
UC Davis topped Cal State Northridge 9-7 in the first game and was led by Kyle Mihaylo who went 2-for-5 with two runs, an RBI and a home run... Scott Lyman went 2-for-4 and posted three runs, an RBI, a home run and a double against the Matadors... Cal State Northridge's Paul Tremlin pitched a complete game to lead the Matadors to a series-evening 11-1 victory Saturday... Tremlin gave up one earned run on six hits to the Aggies and struck out five... Lyman returned to the mound Sunday to lead UC Davis to a 16-0 after throwing eight shutout innings and giving up only three hits to the Matadors... Paul Politi and Eric Johnson each hit 4-for-6 for the Aggies in the win.
LYMAN NAMED BIG WEST PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore right-hander Scott Lyman was named Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week after leading UC Davis to a 16-0 win over Cal State Northridge Sunday... Lyman threw eight shutout innings and gave up only three hits to the Matadors while tying a season-high with six strikeouts... He faced just two batters over the minimum and used only 105 pitches... In addition to his work on the moound, Lyman went 4-for-14 as a hitter during the series with four runs, two doubles and a home run for a .286 batting average... The award is the first for Lyman in his Aggie career and the first for UC Davis since Kyle Mihaylo and Andy Suiter swept the awards in May 2008.
In the Aggies' four games last week, UC Davis hit .322 as a team and put up 32 runs on 49 hits... In addition, UC Davis produced 10 doubles and five home runs... Paul Politi led the Aggies as he went 8-for-16 with six runs, two doubles, a home run and three RBI... Eric Johnson hit .471, going 8-for-17 with five runs, a double, a home run and five RBI... Scott Kalush was the third Aggie to hit above. 400 on the week as he went 7-for-17 with two runs, one double and five RBI.
A HIGH-SCORING AFFAIR
Double-digit runs were scored in two of the three games against Cal State Northridge last weekend, marking the 17th time this season that either team scored double-digit runs in a game.
JOHNSON PERFECT IN THE FIELD
Sophomore Eric Johnson has recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage and has yet to commit an error in his duties at first base... Johnson has recorded double-digit putouts 12 times, including a season-high 16 against San Jose State Apr. 14... His 335 total putouts ranks third in the Big West... In addition, Johnson has fielded 27 double plays which is sixth in the conference.
AGGIES AMONGST BIG WEST LEADERS
David Popkins is fifth in the Big West in on base percentage (.448)... Scott Lyman's 15 doubles are tied for fourth-most with two other players... Eric Johnson is second in hit by pitch with 15... Seth Batty's 10 stolen bases are sixth-best in the conference... Dayne Quist has thrown 70.2 innings, sixth-most in the league... His 59 strikeouts are tied for fourth with Long Beach State's Jak Thompson... He has struck out 25 batters looking, the most in the league... He has picked off four runners which is second-most... Matthew Lewis' five saves are tied for second with Cal State Fullerton's Nick Ramirez... Eric Johnson ranks third in total putouts (335) and sixth in double plays fielded with 27... Justin Schafer and Scott Heylman rank eighth and fifth, respectively in assists... Schafer has recorded 108 while Heylman has posted 112.
The Apr. 28 game against Cal marked the eighth time in 2010 that UC Davis has been forced to shift a game due to inclement weather... The Aggies have played three doubleheaders and are 3-3 on days in which the team has played two games in one day... The Apr. 5 matchup at Nevada has been postponed twice... Game times during the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament hosted by Santa Clara and San Jose were also adjusted to accomodate rain.
UC DAVIS AT NEVADA POSTPONED
Due to inclement weather in the Reno area Tuesday, UC Davis' matchup at Nevada has been rescheduled... The Aggies and the Wolf Pack will now meet May 18 at 6 p.m. at Peccole Park.
At 6-foot-5, sophomore first baseman Eric Johnson has been hit by a pitch 15 times and is second in the Big West behind Long Beach State's Brennan Metzger (16)... In games through May 2, Johnson ranked 41st nationally... He also ranks 36th nationally in hit by pitch per game statistics with 0.38 hits per contest.
STEALING THE SHOW
True freshman Seth Batty stole a season-high three bases Apr. 14 against San Jose State... He now leads the team with 10 stolen bases in 12 attempts.
AGGIES STORM BACK TO UPSET NO. 20/23 CAL
In a game threatened by rain and darkness, UC Davis' Kyle Mihaylo hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Aggies a 6-5 upset win over No. 20 Cal Wednesday... After the very first at-bat of the game, the teams were forced into a nearly 40-minute rain delay, but as action resumed Cal jumped to a 5-2 lead after five innings... UC Davis came back to tie the score at 5-5 with a three-run sixth inning... Behind the pitching of David Popkins and impressive defensive plays, the Aggies held Cal from scoring... With the score still tied at five runs each, home plate umpire Billy Haze signaled that the ninth inning would be the final inning of play due to darkness... With one out in the bottom of the ninth and the count at 1-2, Mihaylo hit a fastball squarely into center field to bring Scott Heylman home and seal the win for UC Davis.
UC DAVIS PICKED TO FINISH NINTH IN BIG WEST PRESEASON POLL
In only their third season at the Division I level, UC Davis was selected to finish ninth in the Big West Conference preseason poll which is conducted by the league's nine head coaches... Cal State Fullerton received seven first-place votes and were followed by UC Irvine who picked up two-first place votes... Rounding out the top three was Cal Poly in third... Long Beach State was chosen to finish fourth while UC Riverside landed in fifth and UC Santa Barbara took the sixth spot... Pacific, Cal State Northridge and UC Davis completed the field.

UC Davis will hit the road for a midweek game at Saint Mary's Tuesday, May 11 at 3 p.m. before returning for the final home Big West series of the year... UC Davis will host Cal Poly beginning Friday, May 14.
