DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis baseball players Ty Kelly and Jake Jefferies have been included in the recently narrowed down Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award list, as announced by the College Baseball Foundation in Lubbock, TX. The list, which began with nominations from a majority of NCAA Division I schools, was narrowed down to 100 on Monday and will continue to be cut down until the final three are announced following Super Regional play in June.

Kelly and Jefferies have led the Aggie offense all season and are in the top five of the Big West Conference in most major offensive categories. Kelly continues to lead the team and the league in batting average (.415) and hits (73), while Jefferies tops the team in RBI's (50) and doubles (16), and continues to rank second in the nation in toughest to strike out with only six in 190 at bats. His 50 RBI's rank him seventh on the single season list while he and Kelly are only three and four hits, respectively, away from that single season list.

The selection committee will narrow the Wallace Watch throughout the remainder of the season and the three Wallace Award finalists will be announced following NCAA Super Regional play. Along with their head coaches and parents, the finalists will be invited to Lubbock from July 2-4 to participate in the College Baseball Foundation's celebration of college baseball. The 2008 College Baseball Hall of Fame Inductees will also be present for the three days of festivities.

UC Davis plays No. 16 Cal today in Berkeley at 2:30 p.m.
