UC Davis, winners of four of its last five games, embarks on its final road trip of the year to play a three-game series at Cal State Northridge beginning Friday.
The Aggies topped San Jose State 12-9 on Tuesday in a make-up game from the Mar. 17 rainout... Prior to the start of that game, the teams completed the Feb. 21 suspended contest with the Spartans claiming a 4-3 12-inning win.
Eric Johnson and Tom Briner swept the Big West Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for their efforts against Long Beach State.
UC Davis set a single season record for hit by pitch on Sunday... The Aggies have been hit by pitches 86 times this year, breaking the 1994 mark of 78.
Cal State Northridge took 2-of-3 from UC Irvine over the weekend and has won four of its last six games.
Matt Vaughn was named head coach of the UC Davis baseball team in August 2011 and begins his 20th overall season with Aggie baseball... He pitched for the Aggies from 1989-92, then stayed on as an assistant and associate head coach... Vaughn will also continue his duties as pitching coach.
In his second season with the Matadors, Matt Curtis arrived at Cal State Northridge from Fresno Statewhere he served as an assistant coach for 10 seasons... He led last year's Matadors to a 23-33 finish and saw three of his players earn All-Big West Conference recognition... As a part of the Bulldogs' staff, he helped Fresno State to the 2008 national championship, five consecutive WAC titles and four straight NCAA Regional appearances.
SCOUTING CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE
Cal State Northridge took 2-of-3 from UC Irvine last weekend, winning their second consecutive Big West series, and has now won four of its last six games.
Cal Vogelsang leads the team with 49 hits while Miles Williams has driven in 24 RBI... Marty Bowen and Kyle Attl are the only Mustangs who have started all 46 games.
Vogelsang also holds the distinction of hitting the team's only triple of the year.
With 19 home runs, the Matadors are tied for second in the Big West and are second in the conference in sacrifice bunts with 53.

AGGIES SWEEP BIG WEST WEEKLY AWARDS
For his play against Nevada and Long Beach State, senior Eric Johnson earned Big West Player of the Week honors for the first time in his UC Davis career.
Senior righty Tom Briner was voted Big West Pitcher of the Week, also earning the award for the first time in his Aggie career.
Johnson hit a walk-off single to drive in the gamewinning run in the May 11 series opener against Long Beach State... He followed that with a 2-for-3 outing on May 12, hitting his first home run of the season and scoring three of UC Davis' five runs.
Briner threw his third complete game of the year on May 12, using just 79 pitches to dismantle the Dirtbags... For the fifth time this year, Briner did not walk a batter.
It marks the first time since 2008 that UC Davis has swept the Big West weekly honors.
With 86 HBPs through 50 games, UC Davis has set a single-season school record.
The previous record was 78 from the 1994 season.
On Sunday against Long Beach State, Paul Politi was hit in the second inning, marking the 79th time an Aggie batter has been hit by a pitch, setting the new mark.
Over the last seven games, UC Davis has been hit 13 times.
UC Davis opened the season with a streak of 21 straight games where someone had been hit at least once until the Mar. 30 contest at Hawai'i stopped the streak.
David Popkins has been hit 15 times while Brett Morgan, Nick Lynch and Eric Johnson have each been hit 10 times.
As of May 6, UC Davis ranks 18th nationally in the category.
