UC Davis, winners of six of its last eight games, closes out the nonconference portion of the 2012 schedule with a 3 p.m. contest at Saint Mary's on Tuesday.
The Aggies own a 14-18 nonconference record.
The Aggies won their third straight Big West Conference series after taking two of three games from Cal State Northridge at Matador Field... UC Davis is now tied for fifth in the Big West standings.
Saint Mary's returns to action for the first time since May 13 after taking a break for finals and graduation... Prior to the break, the Gaels dropped two of three games to Portland... The Gaels have lost seven of their last nine games.
The Gaels will close out 2012 with four straight home games, beginning with Tuesday's matchup against the Aggies.
Matt Vaughn was named head coach of the UC Davis baseball team in August 2011 and begins his 20th overall season with Aggie baseball... He pitched for the Aggies from 1989-92, then stayed on as an assistant and associate head coach... Vaughn will also continue his duties as pitching coach.
Judd Soto is wrapping up his ninth season with Saint Mary's and is the school's second winningest coach... Under his guidance, the Gaels have steadily improved with each season... He has seen 26 players earn West Coast Conference accolades and over 15 players selected in the amateur draft.
SCOUTING SAINT MARY'S
Saint Mary's last saw action May 11-13 in Portland as the Gaels dropped two of three games to the Pilots in a West Coast Conference series... The Gaels took last week off for final exams and graduation.
The Gaels are led by Collin Ferguson who has played in 46 games and owns a .329 batting average to go with a team-leading 57 hits and 16 doubles... Troy Channing has started 29 games and is batting .376.
Chris Murphy and Patrick Wisdom are the lone Gaels who have started all 49 games and are each batting .254 on the year... Murphy leads the team in RBI with 27 while Wisdom has hit six home runs which is the most of any Gael.
Patrick Keane has seven saves on the season and owns a 1.88 ERA.
Tuesday starter Ben Griset is 2-6 with a 4.37 ERA... In 59.2 innings of work, he has given up 39 runs on 66 hits while striking out 52 batters.

BRINER GOES THE DISTANCE... AGAIN
Tom Briner pitched his second-straight complete game on Saturday at Cal State Northridge, striking out seven batters in an 8-2 win.
Briner now owns a team-leading four complete games and has thrown 89.2 innings.
As a team, UC Davis has thrown nine complete games in the 2012 season... Briner owns four, Dayne Quist has three and Anthony Kupbens has thrown two CGs.
The nine complete games that UC Davis has thrown this year marks the most since the 2004 season when the Aggies also threw nine CGs that year.
UC Davis continues to build on its single-season school record, racking up 93 hits in 53 games... The Aggies rank seventh in the country in the stat.
The Aggies broke the previous single-season mark of 78 from the 1994 season on May 13 against Long Beach State.
An Aggie batter has been hit at least once in the last 10 games and over that span, UC Davis has been hit 20 times.
David Popkins has been hit 15 times, second-most in the Big West, while Brett Morgan has been hit 12 times.
Popkins ranks sixth all-time on the career hit by pitch lists with 36 while Eric Johnson is tied for fourth all-time with 39 HBPs.
UC Davis has hit at least one double in each of the last 21 straight games.
The streak dates to Apr. 17 against Sacramento State and the Aggies have hit 43 doubles during the stretch.
Kevin Barker leads the team with 15 doubles while Paul Politi has knocked in 12 doubles.

UC Davis will say goodbye to nine seniors on Sunday in the season finale against UC Irvine: Ryan Allgrove, Tom Briner, Eric Johnson, Scott Kalush, Anthony Kupbens, Ryan Lucas, Brett Morgan, David Popkins and Dayne Quist.
