UC Davis closes the 2012 season with a three-game homestand against UC Irvine beginning on Friday.
The Aggies have won five of their last six games and have claimed three straight Big West Conference series... UC Davis is now tied for fifth in the Big West standings.
UC Irvine has lost five of its last seven games, but took two of three games from Cal State Bakersfield last weekend... The Anteaters are in fourth place in the Big West standings.
Sunday marks Senior Day for the nine Aggie seniors who will be playing their final game at Dobbins Stadium... A pregame ceremony will be held to recognize Ryan Allgrove, Tom Briner, Eric Johnson, Scott Kalush, Anthony Kupbens, Ryan Lucas, Brett Morgan, David Popkins and Dayne Quist.
Matt Vaughn was named head coach of the UC Davis baseball team in August 2011 and begins his 20th overall season with Aggie baseball... He pitched for the Aggies from 1989-92, then stayed on as an assistant and associate head coach... Vaughn will also continue his duties as pitching coach.
Mike Gillespie will be in search of his 200th career win this weekend at Dobbins Stadium... He owns a 199-64 record in only his fifth year at UC Irvine for a .757 win percentage... In 41 total seasons as a Div. I head coach, he boasts 962 wins... He has led the Anteaters to fourth straight postseason appearances during his tenure.
SCOUTING UC IRVINE
UC Irvine droped a 6-1 decision to No. 9 UCLA on May 22, marking the Anteaters' fifth loss in their last seven games.
D.J. Crumlich is the only Anteater who has appeared in and started all 53 games this year and he leads the team offensively with a .324 average... He also leads in runs (36), hits (68) and doubles (16).
Christian Ramirez is also batting .324 while Jordan Fox has driven in a team-high 34 RBI... Fox has also stolen 10 bases in 14 attempts.
Friday's starting pitcher Andrew Thurman became just the second Anteater in program history to throw three complete-game shutouts in a single season after doing so in a 7-0 win over Cal State Bakersfield on May 18.
Thurman has won six straight decisions and has pitched 92 innings with just 64 strikeouts... Batters are hitting just .191 against the right-hander.

A FOND FAREWELL
UC Davis will say goodbye to nine seniors on Sunday in the season finale against UC Irvine.
Ryan Allgrove, a transfer from the College of San Mateo, has started 62 games in two years as an infielder... His 13 sacrifice hits in 2012 rank him third in the Big West.
Tom Briner has pitched in 67 games as an Aggie, ranking him third all-time... He earned his first-ever Big West Pitcher of the Week Award this year after dismantling Long Beach State with just 67 pitches.
Eric Johnson finished his sophomore season with a perfect fielding percentage at first base and carried it into his junior season, racking up over 850 chances without an error... He is a three-time Big West Conference All-Academic selection.
Scott Kalush earned Big West Player of the Week and West Region Player of the Week honors as a junior for his offensive performance against Cal State Northridge... He has started nearly every game of his career at catcher.
Anthony Kupbens is tied for seventh all-time at UC Davis with 37 career starts and was a 2011 All-Big West Conference honorable mention.
Ryan Lucas arrived from Chabot College in 2011 and appeared in 17 games that year... He struck out 15 batters in 27 innings of relief work.
Brett Morgan has led the team in stolen bases in 2011 and 2012 and put together two 11-game hitting streaks last season, his first as an Aggie.
David Popkins is one of the top hitters in program history and his 2010 batting average ranks sixth all-time in single season history... He is a two-time All-Big West Conference first team selection and became just the third Aggie in program history to earn Div. I All-West Region honors.
Dayne Quist's 319.2 innings pitched ranks second all-time... He also ranks fifth in career strikeouts (250) and is tied for third in career games started (44).
With two more HBPs on May 22 at Saint Mary's, UC Davis has been hit by 95 pitches in 53 games... The Aggies rank seventh in the country in the stat.
The Aggies broke the previous single-season mark of 78 from the 1994 season on May 13 against Long Beach State.
An Aggie batter has been hit at least once in the last 11 games and over that span, UC Davis has been hit with pitches 22 times.
David Popkins has been hit 16 times, second-most in the Big West, while Brett Morgan has been hit 13 times.
Popkins ranks sixth all-time on the career hit by pitch list with 36 while Eric Johnson is tied for fourth all-time with 39 HBPs.
UC Davis has hit at least one double in each of the last 22 straight games.
The streak dates to Apr. 17 against Sacramento State and the Aggies have hit 45 doubles during the stretch.
Kevin Barker leads the team with 15 doubles while Paul Politi has knocked in 12 doubles.
GOING THE DISTANCE
Tom Briner pitched his second-straight complete game on Saturday at Cal State Northridge, striking out seven batters in an 8-2 win.
Briner now owns a team-leading four complete games and has thrown 89.2 innings.
As a team, UC Davis has thrown nine complete games in the 2012 season... Briner owns four, Dayne Quist has three and Anthony Kupbens has thrown two CGs.
The nine complete games that UC Davis has thrown this year marks the most since the 2004 season when the Aggies also threw nine CGs that year.
UC Davis' 15 nonconference wins in 2012 are the most since the 2010 season when the Aggies went 17-14 against non-league opponents.
Nonconference series sweeps came against Utah, Cal State Bakersfield and Seattle... The Aggies also topped San Jose State three out of four times.
UC Davis faced two brand new nonconference opponents in Arizona and Creighton in 2012.
Paul Politi is the Aggies' leading hitter with a .336 average and leads the team in hits (74) and RBI (30)... His 12 doubles are second most on the team.
He ranks third in the Big West in hits and eighth in batting average.
He is on a seven-game hitting streak and has gone 13-for-27 during that span (.481)... Hehas also scored five runs over the last five games and drove in three runs against San Jose State on May 15.
Politi has homered twice in the last six games.
Politi scored the winning run of the game on May 11 against LBSU after Eric Johnson hit a walk-off single... He reached base by hitting a 2-2 pitch into right field for a base hit.
