Scored in double figures 11 games, including season-high 22 in double OT win vs. Dartmouth (12/20)... Shot 7-for-12 with three three-pointers in that game... 2003-04: Played in all 27 games, starting nine... Scored 240 points (8.9 ppg) with 69 assists (2.6 apg) and 59 rebounds (2.2 rpg)... Shot .474 (73-154) from the field, .824 (61-74) from the line... Edged Ryan Moore for team lead in three-point percentage, hitting at a .440 (33-75) success rate... Ranked 5th among CCAA leaders in FT percentage, 15th in assists, 18th in assist-turnover ratio (1.38)... Finished 2nd on team with 27 steals... Made 7 straight starts from 1/3 to 1/24... Advancement to starting lineup followed breakout 21-point night against Nevada, in which he shot 7-for-13 from the floor (12/27)... 2002-03: Appeared in 2 games before suffering season-ending injury... Won back year of eligibility by declaring medical hardship year... Played in 7 minutes vs. Regis (11/30), posting 2 rebounds and an assist... Hit a field goal and had 2 assists in 8 minutes vs. Cal State Monterey Bay (12/2).
ST. AUGUSTINE HS '02: Named San Diego Section Player of the Year for D-III as a senior, averaging 23 ppg, 6 rpg, 5 apg as a point guard... Also earned All-San Diego Section, All-Western League and All-Academic first-team honors... Led team to back-to-back section titles in 2001 and 2002... As a senior, led the Saints to championship despite two broken feet... Also lettered in cross country and track & field... Member of Principal's Honor List.
PERSONAL: Born in San Diego, Calif.... Majoring in economics... Parents are Ricardo & Gilda Marentez... Name is pronounced "roh-MEL mah-REN-tez"... Played two years of club ball for High Five America, the same club that produced such alumni as Yao Ming and Mark Price... Career highlight was playing for Mexico at 2005 World University Games... One of 30 student-athletes in U.S. and Mexico invited to try out for Mexican National Team... Became first Aggie basketball player to participate at the Games, which were held in Izmir, Turkey in August of that year... Played in five games, finishing second on team at 12.2 ppg.... One of five current or former Aggies on West Coast Collegiate All-Stars, which competed in Mexico and Argentina during summer of 2006.
