DAVIS, Calif. - Senior Corey Hawkins posted his team's first double-double of the year by finishing with 28 points and 10 rebounds, and UC Davis battled back from an 11-point second-half deficit to force overtime where the Aggies upended Long Beach State, 73-67, in a Big West men's basketball game before a near sellout crowd of 5,089 fans at The Pavilion on Saturday night.

Down 48-37 with 11:40 remaining, UC Davis outscored Long Beach State 33-19 to record its first home victory against the 49ers since Jan. 22, 2005.

Guard Darius Graham added a season-high 12 points and Josh Ritchart pitched in 10 as the Aggies improved to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in the Big West. Guard Mike Caffey countered with 29 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals for Long Beach State which fell to 7-11 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

The game was nationally televised by ESPNU.

"I thought we did not play our best; good teams, when they are not in top form, find a way to win. I thought when we were down 11, the guys dug in on the defensive end.

"It is awfully nice when Corey strapped the team to his back and carried us offensively for a while," added Les. "He makes and takes big shots."

The senior guard scored 20 or more points for the sixth time this season and 29th of his career. Of his 28, 12 were scored throughout the second half with another seven scored throughout the extra session.

He also led all Aggies with 10 rebounds - a new season high.

The victory pushes men's basketball's home record to 8-0 for the first time in the Aggies' Division I history and the first since the 1997-98 season.

Hawkins hit a jumper 43 seconds into overtime to give the Aggies a 62-61 lead while his right-side three-pointer with 1:35 left made it 65-61. Caffey's layup with 17 seconds remaining brought the 49ers to within 69-67, but Hawkins and Graham each went 2 for 2 from the line to hold off Long Beach State.

UC Davis pushed the game into the extra period after trailing 48-37 with 11:40 left in the second half. Long Beach State still led 59-53 with 3:08 to play but a three-point play by Hawkins followed by a three-point play from Brynton Lemar with 33 ticks to go tied the game. The 49ers held for the final shot in regulation, but Caffey was off the mark on a long three as time expired.

"He gave us a great lift," said Les regarding Lemar's contributions in Saturday's game - both at the end of regulation and on defense all night long after drawing Caffey as a defensive assignment.

"His defense on one end of the court, and his and-one on the other near the end of the game was huge."

The Aggies won the game despite committing 22 turnovers, including 11 in the first half. But despite the defensive miscues, UC Davis was able to forge a 34-32 halftime lead.

Hawkins hit four treys for UC Davis which entered the game leading the country in three-point percentage. The Aggies hit 8 of 22 (.364 pct.) overall. The Aggies also outrebounded the 49ers, 42-33. Caffey was the only player in double figures for Long Beach State.

Saturday's crowd was the fifth-highest since the Pavilion was reconfigured in 2009 and the 12th-highest all-time.

"Tonight's game was unbelievable. I've been to a lot of places - I've coached at Cameron Indoor Stadium (Duke University), played inside Madison Square Garden and Boston Garden and in front of full houses. The Pavilion, tonight, does not take a backseat to any of those places. The energy and enthusiasm was awesome," said Les.

UC Davis returns to action on Thursday when it travels to face UC Riverside before continuing its three-game road trip at Cal State Fullerton next Saturday. The Aggies will face Hawai'i on Jan. 22 before returning home to host UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 29.
