BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Robert Ehsan hit two free throws with :09 left and the Aggie defense held the Roadrunners to 37 percent shooting on the night as UC Davis upset No.22 Cal State Bakersfield, 69-65, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association men's game in front of 1,669 Saturday evening at the Icardo Center.

With the victory the Aggies snap a four-game losing skid and improve to 5-8 on the season, 2-6 in CCAA play. Bakersfield falls to 10-3 overall, 5-3 in conference action.

For the second straight night, the Aggies came out strong in the first half against a bigger opponent. Two early runs, one by each team, had the score tied at 13-13 with a little over six minutes elapsed in the first half. Bakersfield then went cold, going almost six minutes without a field goal and the Aggies took advantage. Jesse Pruitt's jumper at the 12:34 mark gave the Aggies a lead they would not surrender, igniting a 15-2 run by UC Davis in that span. The stretch was punctuated by a Fowzi Abdelsamad jumper at the 8:16 mark before the Roadrunners could momentarily stop the surge. Abdelsamad would add a three-pointer a minute later and when Dominic Callori's jumper fell at the 5:56 mark, the Aggies had their biggest lead of the half at 35-19.

Bakersfield then went on a mini-run of its own, outscoring UC Davis 10-2 over the next 4:25 as the Aggies could only convert one field goal in that span. After cutting the lead to eight with just over three minutes left, Bakersfield went cold again and UC Davis scored the final four points of the half, the last two on a Brett Lantz runner that gave the Aggies a 12-point halftime lead.

In the second half the Aggies increased their lead to 18 with two field goals each by Callori and Justin Stearns. But the Ags would connect on just one field goal over the next seven minutes as the Roadrunners cut the lead to seven at the 7:45 mark, 55-48. Pruitt ended the drought with two free throws and a three-pointer to get the lead back to 11.

Bakersfield would make another push, cutting the lead to six at 61-55, following a three-point play by Terri Miller with just over two minutes left. Three-pointers by Lawrence Charles and Billy Speer brought the lead back to three with :12 left before Ehsan connected on the two free throws that made it a two possession game. Sedale Threatt's long jumper cut it back to three with two seconds left, but Callori was fouled on the inbound pass, sending him to the foul line. He made the first, giving the Aggies a four-point cushion, sealing the win.

"This team showed tremendous character and pride in the way it responded tonight after a tough loss last night at Stanislaus," said Aggie Head Coach Brian Fogel. "This was a huge win. Bakersfield is a very good team and now we need to turn the momentum from this win into a positive that will carry us into next weekend."

After seeing a 19-point lead fall on Friday at Stanislaus, UC Davis made its first-half lead hold up as Callori led the way with a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds. Abdelsamad finished with 18 points, 10-of-10 from the free throw line, while Ehsan finished with a season-high 11 points. Jesse Pruitt contributed nine points and six rebounds, both season-highs. For the night the Aggies shot 27-of-30 from the foul line, its second-best performance of the season.

Bakersfield was led by Fred Nichols' 11 points and seven boards, while Miller was the only other Roadrunner in double figures with 10 points and eight rebounds.

UC Davis will next be in action on Friday when it travels to Phoenix, Ariz. to face Grand Canyon University. Gametime is scheduled for a 6:30pm PST start.
