GREELEY, Colo. - UC Davis scored the first 10 points of the game and never trailed as it posted its second 20-point road victory of the season with a 79-57 win over Northern Colorado in a men's basketball game Saturday night at the Btler Hancock Pavilion.
With the win the Aggies snap a three-game losing skid and close their 2004-05 campaign with an 11-17 record. The Bearns end their season with an 8-21 mark.
The Aggies came out strong, scoring the first 10 points of the contest and held a 17-4 lead seven and a half minutes into the game. UC Davis connected on 57 percent from the floor in the half, including a Rommel Marentez three-pointer with just over a second left to give the Aggies their biggest lead of the half at 45-29.
In the second half it was about the Aggie defense and Northern Colorado managed to shoot just 35 percent over the final 20 minutes, going over nine minutes with a field goal as UC Davis stretched its lead to 26 with three minutes remaining.
"It's ironic that in our last game we executed as well as we have all year," said Aggie head coach Gary Stewart. "That's a testament to the team and how it always looks forward to getting better.
"It was nice to send our seniors out with a win," Stewart continued. "This was a tribute to them and what they have given to our program. They have left an indelible mark on the program and are great ambassadors for the university. I can't say enough positive things about those five guys."
For the game the Aggies shot 50 percent from the field as four players reached double figures. Ryan Moore led the way with 15 while Phil Rasmussen added 13 and a team-best eight rebounds, while Marentez finished with 12 and Robert Ehsan added 10.
Senior Fowzi Abdelsamad scored seven points in his final game, ending his career eighth on the all-time scoring list with 1,235 points. Moore's 15 points moved him into 12th place on the all-time scoring list with 1,058.
Kirk Archibeque led all scorers with 24 points and nine rebounds, the only Bear player in double figures.
The Aggies received a solid contribution from their bench as the reserved outscored Northern Colorado 29-12.
In addition to tonight's contest, the Aggies also posted a 20-point road win with a 79-56 win at Cal Poly on Jan. 17.
