DAVIS, Calif. - Garrison Goode had a career-high 12 rebounds and four assists to complement his nine points and Chima Moneke scored 21 points to lead five Aggies in double figures as the UC Davis men's basketball team tuned up for its Golden 1 Center showdown with Sacramento State on Monday by downing Holy Names, 89-75, in a nonconference matchup at the Pavilion on Thursday.

Lawrence White and Darius Graham each had 15 points while Siler Schneider and Mikey Henn each added 10 for UC Davis which improved to 3-1 overall. Jewels Sanders and Jake Higgins each tallied 15 points for the Hawks.

UC Davis never trailed in the game, opening an 11-point lead with 7 minutes to go in the first half after a dunk from Moneke, and then eventually stretched it to 17 after the second of back-to-back layups from Goode.

On three occasions throughout the first half, Holy Names was held scoreless for nearly three minutes. Combined with a 22-10 run before halftime, UC Davis pulled away and never looked back.

"I thought our defense was really good in spurts, with the potential to reach an elite level," said UC Davis head coach Jim Les following the game. "Being consistent with a combination of lineups on the floor is the challenge we face right now, and the players are capable of that.

"If they can accomplish that, UC Davis will be a tough out on any given night."

The lead grew to as many as 22 points in the second half while Holy Names was able to cut it to as few as 13 on pair of occasions but the Hawks could get no closer and never seriously threatened after halftime.

In addition to scoring 18 points off 14 Holy Names turnovers, more than half of UC Davis' points were scored in the paint in a game that the Aggies led from the opening tip until the final buzzer.

UC Davis shot 52 pct. from the floor and had 20 assists on 31 made baskets. Schneider had five dishes while Brynton Lemar joined Goode with four. Goode's dozen boards helped the Aggies hold a 38-35 advantage on the glass.

The Aggies will now get ready to face Sacramento State on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Golden 1 Center in the first college basketball at the new downtown arena in Sacramento. Cal and San Diego State will follow in the doubleheader's second matchup.

With Thursday's victory, the Aggies' sixth in a home opener in the last seven seasons, they will enter Monday's rivalry game at the Golden 1 Center with a 3-1 record.

UC Davis has now won seven of its 10 home openers since joining the Big West Conference in 2007.
