OPENING TIPS: The Aggies return to the road for the first two of three straight games away from Hamilton Court, not playing home again until Jan. 26 when they'll have gone 53 days with just two homes contests... UC Davis is allowing 65.0 ppg through its first three Big West matchups, more than 10 ppg fewer than its averaging (75.9) for all games... It's also doing better in field goal defense (.441), 3-pt defense (.341) and rebound margin (+0.0) in league games versus all games... The Aggies are also shooting 40.7 pct. from beyond the arc which includes impressive efforts from G Tyler Les (7-10, .700) and G/F Josh Ritchart (8-18, .444)... UC Davis has just one less field goal overall during its first three Big West games and has made seven more treys (22-15) but opponents have doubled up the Aggies at the free throw line (46-23)... After using a different starting lineup in nine straight games, UC Davis has used the quintet of G Tyrell Corbin, G Ryan Howley, G Eddie Miller, G/F Josh Ritchart and F Alex Tiffin each of the past two... Les was held to just one 3-pter by UC Irvine last weekend, ending a string of making at least two in nine straight games... He's made 68 pct. (17 for 25) of his 3-pt attempts over his last five games... Ritchart has also been effective from long distance, making a career-high tying five treys three times this year (four times in his career)... UC Davis is ninth in the Big West for rebounding in all games but has outrebounded two of its first three league opponents... The Aggies are trying to end an 11-game losing streak... The streak matches the program's longest since moving to NCAA Division I... They last had an 11-game losing streak in 2006-07.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. 49ERS: Long Beach State leads UC Davis 13-2 in a series that was played during the 1959-60 season but then went dormant until resuming in 2004-05... The 49ers have won the last four meetings although two of the last three were decided by four points or fewer... The Aggies last win in the series came 82-76 on the road in 2009.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. MATADORS: Cal State Northridge owns a 16-8 series advantage over UC Davis and has captured seven of the past nine meetings although the teams have split the last four... Each team defended their home floor last year with G Eddie Miller and G/F Josh Ritchart scoring 21 and 16 points, respectively, during the Aggies' 78-66 home win near the end of the season... UC Davis had 10 3-pters in the game including three each from Miller and Ritchart... The Aggies haven't won at Northridge since posting a 69-54 win during the 1985-86 season.

LONG BEACH STATE SCOUTING REPORT: The 49ers are 10-6 against one of the nation's toughest schedules, having already faced Pitt (W, 86-76), San Diego State (L,77-73), Louisville (L,79-66), Kansas (L,88-80), North Carolina (L,84-78) and Xavier (W,68-58) among others... Pitt was ranked ninth at the time... The Big West's preseason favorites are led by G CASPER WARE, a Bob Cousy Award finalist, who is averaging 16.6 ppg and by G LARRY ANDERSON (14.8)... F T.J. ROBINSON is averaging a double-double with 12.5 ppg and 10.2 rpg while shooting 52 percent from the floor... Long Beach State is shooting 46.3 percent from the field and leads the league averaging 7.5 steals a game... The 49ers have used the same starting five (Ware, Anderson, Robinson, G/F JAMES ENNIS, F EUGENE PHELPS) every game... Long Beach State,which has won 15 straight at The Pyramid, is ranked 16th in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll... Anderson and Ware have each been named Big West Player of the Week twice this year, Anderson has once.

MATADORS SCOUTING REPORT: Cal State Northridge enters the week having lost three of their past four games but is 3-3 since Dec. 10... The Matadors shoot a league-best 75.5 percent from the line and are paced in scoring by G/F STEPHAN HICKS (16.4) and G JOSH GREENE (10.7) with Hicks also posting an impressive 8.0 rpg, third-best in the Big West... His scoring is fifth-best in the conference... Northridge has struggled shooting the ball from the floor, ranking ninth in both overall (.361) and three-point (.293) shooting... It's also being outrebounded 39.3-35.7 and outscored 72.8-67.1... Greene had a team-high 15 points against Long Beach State (L,81-68) while Hicks contributed 12 points and eight boards... Greene ranks among the leaders in assists, currently fifth at 3.3 apg... CSUN has been solid on the offensive side of the rebounding charts, averaging a BWC-best 14.4 pg.

UC IRVINE 70, UC DAVIS 55: G Harrison Dupont led UC Davis with 11 points and Eddie Miller had a career-high 13 rebounds but UC Irvine's Michael Wilder countered with 20 points to help the Anteaters beat the Aggies 70-55 in a Big West Conference men's basketball game at The Pavilion on Saturday night... A three-point UC Irvine lead at halftime grew to 11 points seven minutes into the second half before DuPont's jumper at the midway point made it 46-41... The `Eaters, however, responded with an 11-1 big run that built their lead to 15 points.... The Aggies could not get closer than 11 points the rest of the way.... UC Irvine, which leads the Big West in field goal defense, held UC Davis to just 37 percent (20 of 54) in the game while also limiting the Aggies to five three-pointers, three below their league-leading average.

LES TIES SCHOOL RECORD: G Tyler Les tied a school record with eight 3-pters against San Jose State on Dec. 20... He made five in the second half and was 8 for 9 overall... Les' treys doubled his previous best - done four times previous this season already - while giving him a career-high 24 points... Three other Aggies also made eight in a game, most recently F KYLE BRUCCELERI against Northern Colorado in 2006.

MORE ON LES: Les enters the weekend ranked 19th in 3-pt pct. (.460), has at least one trey in 14 straight games and has made at least two in 11 of 15 contests... He is shooting 68 percent (17 of 25) over his last five games and with 40 is just 17 away from cracking the top-10 single-season list.

ROUGH BEGINNINGS: UC Davis has faced double-digit deficits in the first halves of each of its last three games, battling back to at least tie each one... The Aggies trailed Cal State Fullerton 38-22 before knotting the matchup with 2:15 left  in the game; were down 25-15 to UC Riverside before taking a 19-18 lead later in the half; and fell behind UC Irvine 16-5 before taking a 27-26 lead with 4:10 to go before halftime.

RITCHART TIES CAREER HIGH: G/F Josh Ritchart, the Big West Co-Freshman of the Year last season, had five treys at Cal State Fullerton on Dec. 29, tying his career high already achieved twice earlier this season and once last year... He finished with 19 points, his first double-digit game in his last five contests.

REBOUNDING IMPROVING: UC Davis was outrebounded 11 times in its first 12 games but has outboarded two of its first three Big West foes... Through three league games, the Aggies are even (96-96) in total rebounds.

STEALING AWAY: The Aggies had eight steals vs. UC Riverside, tying their season-high they also did three of the first four games of the year. 

SLOW START: The last time UC Davis was 1-14 after 15 games was during the 1954-55 season when it started 1-15 and finished 2-6 overall.

NCAA STAT LEADERS: The Aggies enter the New Year ranked 39th in 3-pters per game (8.1), their best showing among the stat categories... They are also 82nd in 3-pt pct. (.368).

SCHOOL RECORD PACE: UC Davis is on pace to break the program record for both 3-pters made (244) and attempted (674) in a season (2008-09)... At their current rate, it's on target for 250 made and 680 attempted.

NBA PEDIGREES: UC Davis features three players whose fathers have played in the NBA... G Tyler Les is the son of head coach Jim Les who spent seven seasons in the NBA, including four with the Sacramento Kings; G Tyrell Corbin is the son of current Utah Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin who played 13 years professionally; and G Corey Hawkins is the son of former NBA sharpshooter Hersey Hawkins, currently an executive with the Portland Trailblazers... Hawkins, who transferred from Arizona State this fall, will not play this season due to NCAA transfer rules... He'll have three years remaining.

FIFTH YEAR IN BIG WEST: The Aggies enter their fifth season in the Big West Conference after officially joining the league in 2007... UC Davis is 21-45 (.318) in its previous four seasons, earning trips to the conference tournament in 2009 and 2010, the latter when it advanced to the semifinals... The Aggies are 46-89 (.341) at the Div. I level overall... They had a program-best 14 wins in 2009-10, finishing 14-18 overall.

ROSTER MAKEUP: Ten of UC Davis' 15 players are underclassmen... Broken down, the Aggies' roster is comprised of four freshman, six sophomores, three juniors and two seniors.

COMING VIA TRANSFER: Four players have made their way to UC Davis from other schools, three of them from Div. I programs... G Eddie Miller (Cal), F Harrison Dupont (The Citadel) and G Corey Hawkins (Arizona State) are four-year transfers while G Paolo Mancasola is a JC transfer from Shasta College.

LES ASSEMBLES STRONG STAFF: HEAD COACH Jim Les went near and far when putting together his assistant coaches... Kevin Nosek, a member of the Aggies' 1998 NCAA Division II Championship team, returns for his ninth year with the program while fellow alum Gus Argenal, who graduated in 2004, is back for his second stint with UC Davis... He was most recently at Chico State... Veteran Chris Davis, who Les faced in the Missouri Valley while he was at Bradley and Davis at Drake, joins the Aggies after three seasons in the Big East at Providence where he was the Friars' recruiting coordinator.

UC DAVIS SIGNS THREE: The Aggies announced G DARIUS GRAHAM (Sacramento HS, Sacramento, Calif.) and F TYLER OTT (Desert Hills HS, St. George, Utah) signed National Letters of Intent during the first day of the signing period on Nov. 9 and then added G OLIVIER-PAUL BETU (Worcester Academy; Worcester, Mass.) this past Wednesday... Graham averaged 10.6 ppg and was an All-Metro Conference first-team pick last year while helping the Dragons to the NorCal Regional semifinal final... Ott averaged 14.6 ppg last year and is an all-state honoree at Desert Hills... Betu, originally from Montreal, is the fourth-rated guard in Canada's prep class of 2012 and the 18th-rated player overall... He averaged 15.1 ppg. and 5.1 assists last year.

SYPKENS OUT FOR SEASON: Head coach Jim Les said that G Ryan Sypkens will be sidelined the remainder of the season due to injury (knee)... Sypkens averaged 14.5 points over the first four games of the season... Sypkens will seek a medical hardship waiver to help the junior guard preserve a season of eligibility.

SILVA LEAVES PROGRAM: Senior G Ryan Silva has decided to leave the program... He appeared in four games this season averaging 0.8 ppg and 8.0 min/game.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Aggies will take a break from the schedule for a week before battling rival Pacific on Jan. 21 in Stockton... That'll bring to a close a three-game roadtrip, tied for its second-longest of the season.
