OPENING TIPS: The Aggies conclude a three-game roadtrip - their second such stretch of the season and second-longest as well - when they visit Pacific looking to find the win column in the Big West Conference standings... UC Davis enters the week having lost three of its league games by a total of seven points... Saturday's game marks the second matchup in the past four seasons between Aggie head coach Jim Les and Pacific coach BOB THOMASON who met in the semifinals of the inaugural CollegeInsider Postseason Tournament in 2009 when Les coached at Bradley... The Braves won that contest 55-49... UC Davis, after briefly falling below 8.0 3-pters per game, canned 13 at Cal State Northridge last weekend, pushing it back over the 8.0 pg. barrier... The `baker's dozen' treys also marked its sixth game with at least 10 and its second-highest total of the season... Its double-digit lead at Cal State Northridge was its first since leading Sacramento State on Nov. 22... The Aggies also shot 50 pct. from the floor against CSUN and 54.2 pct. from 3-pt territory, the former a season-high... UC Davis made its first 19 free throw attempts against the Matadors, finishing 21 of 23 (.913) overall; its best performance from the line... G Tyler Les is ranked second in the Big West and 11th nationally for 3-pters per game (2.65) and is third in pct. (.459)... He's 49th in Div. I in the latter... G Harrison Dupont (3), G/F Josh Ritchart (2) and G Ryan Howley (2) have each strung together consecutive double-digit scoring streaks... Ritchart's eight to start the year is the team's longest... The Aggies are trying to snap losing streaks of 13 games overall and 11 in a row on the road (including neutral-site games).
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. TIGERS: Pacific leads UC Davis 79-11 in their long series which ranks among the oldest in school history... The local rivals started playing in 1916-17 and have continued every decade since... Pacific enjoyed a 49-game winning streak in the series, starting with the 1940-41 season and going until the Aggies knocked off the first-place Tigers 62-59 on Hamilton Court in 2010... Pacific swept both games last year although the latter matchup - a 70-66 decision in Stockton - featured six ties and 14 lead changes.
PACIFIC SCOUTING REPORT: The Tigers enter the weekend having lost nine of their last 10 games after a 4-3 start to the season... They snapped a seven-game losing streak with a convincing 79-59 win at Cal State Northridge on Jan. 12 and are coming off a 76-73 home loss to Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday... G LORENZO McCLOUD (10.9) is the lone Tiger scoring in double figures while F TRAVIS FULTON, who averages a team-best 6.0 rpg, is close behind at 9.8 ppg... Pacific is averaging just 12.9 turnovers and is second in the conference in turnover margin (+1.31)... McCloud is fourth in the Big West in assists (3.25) and fifth in steals (1.19)... F TREVIN HARRIS, who has 22 treys, is second (.458) in the Big West from beyond the arc... McCloud was 8 of 10 from the field and had a game-high 19 points against Bakersfield while Pacific had a strong shooting night, making 56 percent (28 of 50)... The Aggies and Tigers share three nonconference opponents in Stanford and Hawaii... Pacific lost to the Cardinal and split two games with the Rainbow Warriors.
CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE 84, UC DAVIS 80: G Tyler Les hit five three-pointers and scored a team-high 15 points on Saturday night but host Cal State Northridge was able to rally from a late 11-point deficit to edge the Aggies in a Big West Conference game at The Matadome... G/F Josh Ritchart and G Ryan Howley each had 14 points while F Harrison Dupont added 11... UC Davis led for most of the second half, taking a 43-41 halftime advantage and stretching it to 55-45 on F Alex Tiffin's layup with 13:27 left... Tiffin's two free throws a minute later pushed the lead to 59-48, an 11-point cushion the Aggies enjoyed three more times, the final occasion coming on G Tyrell Corbin's trey from the left wing with 6:40 to go that made it 71-60... The Matadors, however, held UC Davis scoreless for the next five minutes while embarking on a 16-0 run... DuPont's free throw made it 76-72 with 1:33 to play but Northridge was able to hold the Aggies off down the stretch.
LES TIES SCHOOL RECORD: G Tyler Les tied a school record with eight 3-pters against San Jose State on Dec. 20... He made five in the second half and was 8 for 9 overall... Les' treys doubled his previous best - done four times previous this season already - while giving him a career-high 24 points... His percentage that game ties him for third-best among Div. I shooters this season while his eight made are tied for ninth... Three other Aggies also made eight in a game, most recently F KYLE BRUCCELERI against Northern Colorado in 2006.
ROUGH BEGINNINGS: UC Davis faced double-digit deficits in the first halves of its first four Big West games, battling back to at least tie the first three... The Aggies trailed Cal State Fullerton 38-22 before knotting the matchup with 2:15 left in the game, were down 25-15 to UC Riverside before taking a 19-18 lead later in the half, and fell behind UC Irvine 16-5 before taking a 27-26 lead with 4:10 to go before halftime... UC Davis was down 14-2 at Long Beach State last week, later getting back to within two before trailing by six at the break.
...ON THE OTHER HAND: The Aggies turned the tables on their opponents at Cal State Northridge, jumping to a 22-9 lead and then holding a double-digit lead in the second half before the Matadors rallied for the win.
3-PT PARADE: G Tyler Les has a career-high 45 treys and is just 12 away from cracking the top-10 single-season list... G Fowzi Abdelsamad had a school-record 83 in 2003... At his current rate, Les would finish with 82.
OFFENSIVE BOARDS: F Alex Tiffin has a team-high 24 offensive rebounds, representing 45 pct. of his total boards, highest on the team... Tiffin had a career-best 10 at Cal State Fullerton on Dec. 29, including three offensive boards.
CORBIN DISHING AND SHOOTING: Freshman G Tyrell Corbin ranks third among BWC free throw shooters at 82.1 percent, is fifth in assists at 3.1 pg and is eighth in assist/turnover ratio (1.0)... He is the highest-ranking Big West freshman in either category.
HOWLEY SETS CAREER MARK: G Ryan Howley canned four three-pointers at Cal State Northridge, including three in the first half, breaking his previous best of three, achieved twice earlier this season.
RITCHART TIES CAREER HIGH: G/F Josh Ritchart, the Big West Co-Freshman of the Year last season, had five treys at Cal State Fullerton on Dec. 29, tying his career high already achieved twice earlier this season and once last year... Ritchart opened the year with eight straight double-digit scoring games before cooling off... He's reached the mark in his last two.
NCAA STAT LEADERS: UC Davis is ranked 34th nationally in 3-pters per game (8.2) and 51st in pct. (.378), its best showings in the national stat rankings... G Tyler Les is 11th nationally among individuals from beyond the arc at 45.9 pct. and is 49th in 3-pters per game (2.6).
SCHOOL RECORD PACE: UC Davis remains on pace to break the program record for 3-pters made (244) in a season and is barely off the mark for most attempted (674, both in 2008-09... At its current rate, it's on target for 253 made and 671 attempted.

NBA PEDIGREES: UC Davis features three players whose fathers have played in the NBA... G Tyler Les is the son of head coach Jim Les who spent seven seasons in the NBA, including four with the Sacramento Kings; G Tyrell Corbin is the son of current Utah Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin who played 13 years professionally; and G Corey Hawkins is the son of former NBA sharpshooter Hersey Hawkins, currently an executive with the Portland Trailblazers... Hawkins, who transferred from Arizona State this fall, will not play this season due to NCAA transfer rules... He'll have three years remaining.
FIFTH YEAR IN BIG WEST: The Aggies enter their fifth season in the Big West Conference after officially joining the league in 2007... UC Davis is 21-45 (.318) in its previous four seasons, earning trips to the conference tournament in 2009 and 2010, the latter when it advanced to the semifinals... The Aggies are 46-89 (.341) at the Div. I level overall... They had a program-best 14 wins in 2009-10, finishing 14-18 overall.
ROSTER MAKEUP: Ten of UC Davis' 15 players are underclassmen... Broken down, the Aggies' roster is comprised of four freshman, six sophomores, three juniors and two seniors.
COMING VIA TRANSFER: Four players have made their way to UC Davis from other schools, three of them from Div. I programs... G Eddie Miller (Cal), F Harrison Dupont (The Citadel) and G Corey Hawkins (Arizona State) are four-year transfers while G Paolo Mancasola is a JC transfer from Shasta College.
LES ASSEMBLES STRONG STAFF: HEAD COACH Jim Les went near and far when putting together his assistant coaches... Kevin Nosek, a member of the Aggies' 1998 NCAA Division II Championship team, returns for his ninth year with the program while fellow alum Gus Argenal, who graduated in 2004, is back for his second stint with UC Davis... He was most recently at Chico State... Veteran Chris Davis, who Les faced in the Missouri Valley while he was at Bradley and Davis at Drake, joins the Aggies after three seasons in the Big East at Providence where he was the Friars' recruiting coordinator.
UC DAVIS SIGNS THREE: The Aggies announced G DARIUS GRAHAM (Sacramento HS, Sacramento, Calif.) and F TYLER OTT (Desert Hills HS, St. George, Utah) signed National Letters of Intent during the first day of the signing period on Nov. 9 and then added G OLIVIER-PAUL BETU (Worcester Academy; Worcester, Mass.) this past Wednesday... Graham averaged 10.6 ppg and was an All-Metro Conference first-team pick last year while helping the Dragons to the NorCal Regional semifinal final... Ott averaged 14.6 ppg last year and is an all-state honoree at Desert Hills... Betu, originally from Montreal, is the fourth-rated guard in Canada's prep class of 2012 and the 18th-rated player overall... He averaged 15.1 ppg. and 5.1 assists last year.
SYPKENS OUT FOR SEASON: Head coach Jim Les said that G Ryan Sypkens will be sidelined the remainder of the season due to injury (knee)... Sypkens averaged 14.5 points over the first four games of the season... Sypkens will seek a medical hardship waiver to help the junior guard preserve a season of eligibility.
SILVA LEAVES PROGRAM: Senior G Ryan Silva has decided to leave the program... He appeared in four games this season averaging 0.8 ppg and 8.0 min/game.
SLOW START: The Aggies are trying to avoid a 1-17 start for the first time since 1947-48 when they began 0-17 and finished 2-18.
LOOKING AHEAD: UC Davis will play home for just the second time since early December when it hosts Cal Poly (Jan. 26) and UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 28) at The Pavilion... The game with the Gauchos marks the annual return of former coach BOB WILLIAMS who led UC Davis to the 1998 NCAA Division II Championship.
