DAVIS, Calif. - Last Thursday, UC Davis won its ninth straight game against CSUN thanks to its 63-56 victory, which doubled as the Aggies’ ninth in a row vs. the Matadors on their home court. One week later, it is UC Davis’ turn to hit the road and visit the Valley in the first of two games that will air on ESPN3 this week.
Rahshaun Haylock (Play-by-Play), Richie Schueler (Analyst), and Megan Reza (Sideline) will call the action live from the Matadome Thursday night for ESPN3’s national stream.
Scott Marsh will also provide a radio broadcast that UC Davis basketball fans can listen to on KSAC 105.5 FM, on a mobile device by searching the phrase “UC Davis Sports Network” on TuneIn Radio’s app, or online at UCDavisAggies.com.
In two dominant home victories last week versus CSUN and Cal Poly, UC Davis’ defense limited them to a combined .392 from the floor (40 for 102) and owned the paint on both ends of the court. In addition to outscoring the Matadors and Mustangs in the paint by a combined 84-38 margin, the Aggies also outrebounded their league foes, 72-48.
By holding CSUN to 56 points last week — UC Davis’ defense is ranked No. 1 in the league by allowing opponents to average 66.1 points per game — continued a trend that started from the first game of the season: when other teams score less than 70 points, the Aggies win that game.
Including its result vs. CSUN, UC Davis is 8-0 when teams score 59 points or fewer, and 5-0 when they score between 60-69 points.
This series has been one-sided in recent seasons, with the Aggies winning 13 of the last 15 games. However, the two anomalies took place inside the Matadome, where four of CSUN’s five wins took place.
Series Record: UC Davis leads 20-19
Last UC Davis Win: 1/25/18 - H, 63-56
Last CSUN Win: 1/19/14 - A, 89-77
