DAVIS, Calif. - Awe-inspiring performances in last week's home games versus Hawai'i and Cal State Northridge helped Corey Hawkins earn Player of the Week honors from the Big West Conference as announced Monday afternoon.
The award was one of two received throughout the day as College Sports Madness also named Hawkins its Big West Player of the Week.
This is the second time this season the sophomore guard was recognized by the Big West and College Sports Madness as he received both awards after his record-setting efforts against, coincidentally, Hawai'i and Cal State Northridge when the Aggies visited each campus last month.
Responsible for nearly one-third of his team's points, Hawkins helped UC Davis earn its first sweep of the season over (then) second-place Hawai'i and the program's first-ever sweep against Cal State Northridge.
For the week, Hawkins scored a combined 52 points and shot 61.5 pct. from the floor, including a 72.7 pct. clip from three to finish as the Aggies' leading scorer in both games.
The Goodyear, Ariz., native also led UC Davis at the line in last Thursday's game versus Hawai'i and recorded a team-high five assists. Two days later against Cal State Northridge, Hawkins posted his third 30-point scoring effort of the season and scored seven of the Aggies' 12 points from the line.
UC Davis will return to action against the defending Big West Conference champions on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Walter Pyramid on the campus of Long Beach State. Tip time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
