UC Davis is coming off a 69-56 loss at Cal Poly on Thursday, a game which its four 3-pters tied a season low... The Aggies missed their first 14 3-pt attempts and finished 4 of 20 (.200) from beyond the arc overall... They didn’t make their first 3-pter until midway through the second half... Freshman F J.T. ANDRELE was a bright spot for UC Davis, scoring a career-high 16 points, including 14 in the second half when he made 7 of 9 shots... He also had a career-high - and Aggie season-best - four blocked shots as UC Davis swatted seven overall... The Aggies also tied a season-low with just 11 turnovers (done three other times)... After outrebounding Cal State Fullerton by 12 during last week’s win, the Aggies were beaten 37-24 on the boards by the Mustangs... UC Davis also went to the line just 11 times, its lowest total since shooting eight against UC Riverside on Jan. 8... G Tyler Les moved two treys closer to the program’s single-season record... He has 78 and needs six to break the of G Fowzi Abdelsamad (‘04-05)... UC Davis needs to average 6.5 3-pters over its last two “guaranteed” games to break the school record of 244 from 2008-09... The Aggies are ranked 31st nationally for 3-pters per game (8.0) and are 44th in pct. (.374)... Les is 26th among all Div. I players in pct. (.415) and is 38th in 3-pters per game (2.7)... Regardless of Saturday’s outcome, UC Davis will face Long Beach State in the first round of the Big West Tournament next week.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. GAUCHOS: UC Santa Barbara and UC Davis started playing in the 1926-27 season with the Aggies winning the first two matchups... The Gauchos, however, have won 20 of the past 23 games and lead the all-time series 20-5... They’re 9-1 since the Aggies joined the Big West in 2007, have won seven straight and 10 of the past 11... G ORLANDO JOHNSON scored 21 points to lead five Gauchos in double figures and UCSB built a 48-29 halftime lead during its 86-59 win on Jan. 26.

UCSB SCOUTING REPORT: G ORLANDO JOHNSON, with 1,710 points, became the Gauchos’ all-time leading scorer in their win over the Mustangs and is currently the league’s top scorer (20.0) while ranking 10th in rebounding (6.1)... G JAMES NUNNALLY is another key threat, averaging 15.7 ppg and 6.3 rpg, ranking sixth and eighth, respectively, in the Big West... UCSB has won five of its past six games and eight of its past 10 as it tries to secure the No. 2 seed in the Big West Tournament... The Gauchos average a league-best 38.2 rpg and 5.3 blocks... UCSB is shooting 45.5 pct. from the field (3rd, Big West) and 36.7 pct. from 3-pt (3rd) while playing good defense to allow just 40.21 pct. (2nd) and 33.6 pct. (3rd), respectively, in those same two categories.

RECAP: CAL POLY 69, UC DAVIS 56: Freshman F J.T. Adenrele scored a career-high 16 points, including 14  in the second half, but David Hanson had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Cal Poly which opened a 15-point halftime lead on its way to a Big West Conference win on Thursday night... The Aggies made just 4 of 20 three-pointers after missing their first 14 attempts... denrele twice scored 10 points this year but eclipsed that scoring high by tallying a pair of free throws in the first half and then making 7 of 9 shots in the second hlf on his way to a new career-best... He added four blocked shots, best for UC Davis this season... UC Davis struggled throughout the first half, particularly from beyond the arc and on the boards... The Aggies, who entered the game 30th nationally in three-pointers per game (8.1) and 34th in percentage (.380), missed all 11 of their three-point attempts over the first 20 minutes and shot just 30.4 percent (7 of 23) overall...  The Mustangs also dominated the rebounding battle, holding a 23-11 advantage at the break... UC Davis shot 59.3 percent (16 of 27) after halftime and warmed up to make 4 of 9 from three-pointers but Cal Poly pushed its lead to 42-22 five minutes into the half and led by as much as 57-32 midway before the Aggies outscored the Mustangs 24-12 the rest of the way.

STARTING LINEUP VARIETY: The Aggies have used 15 different starting lineups, including different quintets in 10 consecutive games earlier this season... G/F JOSH RITCHART’s 24 starts lead the team while G Tyrell Corbin has 23... G Ryan Howley started the first 19 before succumbing to injury.

WEEKLY ACCOLADES: G/F Josh Ritchart was named the Big West Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 18.0 ppg and 10 rpg in a split of games against Seattle and Cal State Fullerton... He’s the Aggies’ first winner of the award since G Joe Harden shared the award with Long Beach State’s F LARRY ANDERSEN in 2009... Ritchart was named on Friday as the Big West Player of the Week by NetScouts Basketball... F Harrison Dupont was instrumental in the Aggies’ modest two-game winning streak two weeks ago and was recognized by College Sports Madness website for his efforts as its BWC Player of the Week... He averaged 18.0 ppg. and 6.5 rpg. while shooting 56.5 pct against Pacific and Northern Arizona.

AGGIE AGGIE DOUBLE-DOUBLES: UC Davis has three double-doubles this season, two of them by G/F Josh Ritchart and one by G Eddie Miller... Ritchart went for 16 and 13 at Cal State Northridge and then 16 and 12 at Seattle... Miller finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds in the win over Cal State Fullerton... G Joe Harden (3) and G Mark Payne (2) led UC Davis in that department last season.

SEASON-HIGH BLOCKS: UC Davis had a season-high seven blocked shots against Cal Poly on Thursday night, just one game after its previous season-best of six against Cal State Fullerton... F J.T. Adenrele led the Aggies with  a career-high four, doubling his previous best done three other times.

STRUGGLES FROM THE FIELD: UC Davis made just 18 field goals against Cal Poly on Thursday, tying its total at Pacific earlier this season for second-fewest in a game... The Aggies had only 15 during a December loss at UCLA.

TURNOVER TOTAL STEADYING: The Aggies’ 11 turnovers against the Mustangs tied a season-low done three other times including two other times in the past seven games... Not counting a season-high tying 22 at Seattle on Feb. 19, UC Davis has averaged just 12.3 miscues in six of its past seven games.

THREE-POINT DROUGHT: Shooting from beyond the arc has been a strength of UC Davis but the Aggies struggled mightily on Thursday at Cal Poly... They missed their first 14 before making 4 of 6 down the stretch... The four total treys tied games against Stanford, UCLA and at Southern Utah for fewest in a contest.

LOCKED INTO NUMBER EIGHT: UC Davis was already assured a spot in the Big West Tournament due to Cal State Northridge being ineligible for the postseason... However, even if the Matadors were eligible, the Aggies would secure the No. 8 seed if they end up tied in the standings because of conference tiebreakers... The teams split their two games but UC Davis owns a win over current second-place Cal State Fullerton.

3-POINT RECORDS ARE FALLING: G Tyler Les tied a school record with eight 3-pters against San Jose State on Dec. 20... Three other Aggies have achieved that feat, most recently G/F KYLE BRUCCELERI in 2006 vs. Northern Colorado... Les was 8 of 9 (.889), tied for fourth-best in Div. I this year, while his eight treys are T-16th... Les is currently second on the Aggies’ single-season list for 3-pters with 78 and needs six to overtake G Fowzi Abdelsamad (83; ‘04-05)... Ritchart (69) is currently fifth for an Aggie season... UC Davis (232) is on pace to break the school record for 3-pters (244; ‘08-09) and is slightly behind (620) to set a new mark for attempts (674; ‘08-09).

AMAZING COMEBACK: The Aggies trailed Northern Arizona on the road by 21 points in the first half on Feb. 18 and were down 45-26 at halftime... However, they shot 63.6 pct. in the second half, erased the deficit in barely more than eight minutes and eventually went up by eight points before winning, 70-65...The comeback was the Aggies’ largest in a victory since moving to NCAA Division I in 2007-08 and their biggest since rallying from 17 down to beat UC Irvine 108-107 in overtime last year.

WINNING LOOKS GOOD: Four players - G/F Josh Ritchart (15.2), G Eddie Miller (13.2), G Tyler Les (12.3), F Harrison Dupont (11.8) - averaged double figures as UC Davis won four of six games entering the week... The Aggies shot 42.6 pct., held opponents to 26.9 pct. from 3-pt and canned 72.6 pct. from the charity stripe.

NCAA RANKINGS: UC Davis continues to be among the top three-point shooting teams in the country, ranking 31st in 3-pters per game (8.0) and 44th among Div. I teams in percentage (.374)... G Tyler Les is 26th for accuracy (.415) while he (38th, 2.7) and G/F Josh Ritchart (81st, 2.4) are both in the top 100 for treys made.

LOSSES TIE SEASON MARK: The Aggies’ 24 losses are the most in season... UC Davis had 23 in 2006-07 finishing 5-23 for its previous mark.

INJURIES TAKE THEIR TOLL: Five different Aggies have suffered injuries this season which have caused them to be in street clothes for games... G Harrison Dupont (head) missed four games due to injury, including three to start the year; G Eddie Miller (leg) missed five due to injury but was limited to just a few minutes in several others; G Ryan Sypkens (knee) played in the first four but is sidelined for the remainder of the year; G/F Josh Ritchart (flu) missed the UCSB game on Jan. 26; and G Ryan Howley (knee) has sat out the last 10 games after leaving the game at Pacific after just two minutes... UC Davis players that have seen action on the court this year have missed a total of 40 games... G Paolo Mancasola (shoulder) dressed against Cal State Fullerton but did not play.

ENDING THE STREAKS: The Aggies’ victory against Cal State Northridge on Feb. 9 halted an 18-game losing streak... It was the program’s longest since dropping 22 in a row during the 1952-53 (13 gms) and 1953-54 (7 gms) seasons... The longest losing streak in program history was 24 straight covering parts of two seasons from 1950-51... UC Davis lost 16 straight games away from The Pavilion (14 road, 2 neutral) before its comeback win at Northern Arizona.

NBA PEDIGREES: UC Davis features three players whose fathers have played in the NBA... G Tyler Les is the son of head coach Jim Les who spent seven seasons in the NBA, including four with the Sacramento Kings; G Tyrell Corbin is the son of current Utah Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin who played 13 years professionally; and G Corey Hawkins is the son of former NBA sharpshooter Hersey Hawkins, currently an executive with the Portland Trailblazers... Hawkins, who transferred from Arizona State this fall, will not play this season due to NCAA transfer rules... He’ll have three years remaining.

UC DAVIS SIGNS THREE: The Aggies announced G DARIUS GRAHAM (Sacramento HS, Sacramento, Calif.) and F TYLER OTT (Desert Hills HS, St. George, Utah) signed National Letters of Intent during the first day of the signing period on Nov. 9 and later added G OLIVIER-PAUL BETU (Worcester Academy; Worcester, Mass.)... Graham averaged 10.6 ppg and was an All-Metro Conference first-team pick last year while helping the Dragons to the NorCal Regional semifinal final... Ott averaged 14.6 ppg last year and is an all-state honoree at Desert Hills... Betu, originally from Montreal, is the fourth-rated guard in Canada’s prep class of 2012 and the 18th-rated player overall... He averaged 15.1 ppg. and 5.1 assists last year.

LOOKING AHEAD: UC Davis will take on top-seeded Long Beach State in the Big West Tournament quarterfinals on Mar. 1 at 6 p.m. at Honda Center... It’s the Aggies’ third-ever Big West apperance and their first since 2010 when they advanced to the semifinals.
