DAVIS, Calif. - Kevin Nosek, a former UC Davis basketball player and assistant coach, will return to the Aggie sideline after being named an assistant coach, announced head coach Gary Stewart. Nosek recently completed a three-year tenure as head coach at Menlo College. He played for UC Davis from 1996-99 and spent the next four years as an Aggie assistant.

Following the 2002-03 season on the UC Davis staff, Nosek was named Menlo's head coach. In just a few short years, he helped turn around a program that won four games two years ago to one that finished 17-11 in 2005-06 for its most wins in seven years. Along the way, Nosek guided the Oaks to the Cal Pac Tournament semifinals in 2004-05 and the conference tournament title game this past season.

"Kevin is extremely talented in a multitude of ways," said Stewart. "We're very fortunate to get him back. He grew up in the community, graduated from UC Davis and played on a national championship team. Couple that with his successful experience as a head coach at the four-year level, and he'll undoubtedly aid in our program's development."

Nosek's previous stint on the Aggies' staff began with the 1999-00 season and ran through 2002-03. During that time, the Aggies posted a 67-23 record, averaging nearly 17 wins per season. As a player, Nosek helped lead UC Davis to the Division II national championship in 1997-98 as the Aggies posted a 31-2 record. The team averaged over 24 wins per season during his three years.

In 2005-06, UC Davis completed the third year of a four-year transition from Division II to Division I. The Aggies will be official members of the Big West Conference beginning with the 2007-08 season.

Nosek's appointment is effective July 1.
