DAVIS, Calif. - In his annual list of the top 50 players in college basketball, junior guard Corey Hawkins received national recognition from Big Lead Sports/USA Today's Jason McIntyre as one of college basketball's best talents entering the 2013-14 season.

When compiling his list, McIntyre took a player's level of talent, defensive prowess, unselfishness, leadership skills and potential into consideration before he ranked student-athletes. Even though Hawkins was one of 13 players that narrowly missed the top 50 threshold, McIntyre still felt he deserved recognition for his individual success and influence in helping the Aggies record one of the biggest turnarounds in the country last season.

Compared to the 2011-12 campaign, last year's team finished with a +10 Division I win differential.

The only Big West player highlighted this year, McIntyre believes that Hawkins "will be a contender to lead the country in scoring after averaging 20.3 points per game last season."

In his first season at UC Davis, Hawkins finished No. 13 in the nation in scoring at 20.3 ppg and became the first Aggie to collect a Big West scoring title. Besides earning a spot on the Lou Henson Mid-Major All-America team, he was recognized by the Big West Conference as its Newcomer of the Year in addition to receiving first team honors.

Last January, at Hawai'i, Hawkins scored a school record 40 points on 10 of 14 shooting to break a 34-year old single-game scoring record. Those 40 points are the most scored in the program's history in a single regulation game and road contest. His eight three-point baskets also tied a UC Davis record for the most recorded in a game, and matched Hawai'i's all-time record for the most scored by an opponent in a single game.

To match the demand for tickets, UC Davis Athletics is now allowing current season ticket holders to renew their seats in addition to offering a six-game and full season plan for fans interested in witnessing UC Davis men's basketball firsthand at The Pavilion.
