DAVIS, Calif. – The rest of the country is realizing what Aggie men’s basketball fans and conference foes discovered last season – Corey Hawkins is one of the most underrated guards in college basketball.
In a recent Bleacher Report column by Doug Brodess, the junior is heralded as one of the 10 most underrated guards in the nation entering the 2013-14 season. Brodess also encourages college basketball fans to keep an eye on Hawkins throughout his two remaining years as an Aggie due to his successful sophomore campaign.
Last season, Hawkins averaged 20.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game. On 15 occasions, he scored 20 or more points; in five games he scored 30 or more.
The first Aggie to capture a conference scoring title, he also ended his first year at UC Davis with Lou Henson Mid-Major All-America and All-Big West first team selections.
Aggie men’s basketball will compete for the first time this season on Nov. 4 in a home exhibition contest against Menlo College. One week later, UC Davis will host Holy Names in its home opener; both games will tip at 7 p.m.
UC Davis men's basketball will begin its season on Nov. 8, at Portland. To match the demand for tickets, UC Davis Athletics is now allowing current season ticket holders to renew their seats in addition to offering a six-game and full season plan for fans interested in witnessing UC Davis men's basketball firsthand at The Pavilion. Season tickets can be renewed or purchased online at ucdavisaggies.com, by contacting Melissa Tinsley directly by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone at (530) 752-1047.
