Hawkins Earns Another All-America Award

Oct. 14, 2013

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis junior forward Corey Hawkins is the only player from the Big West to receive preseason accolades from CollegeInsider.com as a member of the organization's Lute Olson Preseason All-American Team.

The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player in honor of the former University of Arizona coaching great who led the Wildcats to 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997. In 2002 Olson was selected for enshrinement into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Hawkins is one of six players from a mid-major conference to be named to the Lute Olson Preseason All-America Team, joining a list of players that includes Billy Baron (Canisius), Tyler Haws (BYU), Cleanthony Early (Wichita State), Jake Odum (Indiana State) and Kevin Pangos (Gonzaga).

In his first season as an Aggie, Hawkins finished No. 13 in the nation in scoring at 20.3 ppg and became the first Aggie to collect a Big West scoring title. Besides earning a spot on the Lou Henson Mid-Major All-America team, he was recognized by the Big West Conference as its Newcomer of the Year in addition to receiving first team honors.

Last January, at Hawai'i, Hawkins scored a school record 40 points on 10 of 14 shooting to break a 34-year old single-game scoring record. That total is the highest recorded in a single regulation game, and road contest in the program's history. His eight three-point baskets also tied a UC Davis record for the most recorded in a game, and matched Hawai'i's all-time record for the most scored by an opponent in a single game.

UC Davis men's basketball will open its season on Nov. 8, at Portland. To match the demand for tickets, UC Davis Athletics is now allowing current season ticket holders to renew their seats in addition to offering a six-game and full season plan for fans interested in witnessing UC Davis men's basketball firsthand at The Pavilion.
