IRVINE, Calif. - By averaging 18 points and 13.5 rebounds last week in two UC Davis victories, including its first win against a Pac-12 team in 12 years, Big West Conference officials selected senior communication major Chima Moneke as its Player of the Week, as announced on Monday.

In a season that is only four weeks old, Moneke has captured half of the conference’s weekly awards.

Moneke notched his league-high fifth double-double of the year (in the last six games) by finishing with 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds when the Aggies visited Washington State last Saturday. Prior to suffering a blowout loss to the Aggies, the Cougars won all six games played this year, including all three at the Wooden Legacy vs. Saint Joseph’s, Saint Mary’s and San Diego State.

Against Northern Colorado early last week, Moneke recorded 17 points and a game-high 16 rebounds in UC Davis’ home opener, which extended the team’s win streak on Hamilton Court to 12 games — the 11th-longest in the nation.

Moneke will enter Wednesday’s 7:30 p.m. home game against Pacific ranked No. 5 among all Division I players in defensive rebounds per game — 20 of 27 boards collected last week were on defense — No. 8 in double-doubles (5) and No. 9 in rebounds per game (11.4).

After last week’s games, he now leads all league players with his rebounds per game average, nearly two full boards more than the next-ranked player.
