OPENING TIPS: UC Davis continues its five-game roadtrip - the Aggies' longest since the start of the 2006-07 season - by playing UCLA for the second straight year but just the fourth time ever... UC Davis is looking for its first win over a Pac-12 opponent since beating Stanford 64-58 in 2005... Its 0-5 since then... Saturday's noon matchup provides UC Davis its first look at Honda Center which enters its second year as home to the Big West Tournament... The Aggies did not qualify for last year's conference tournament... UC Davis continues to rank among the Big West leaders in both FG pct. (4th, .424) and 3-pt pct. (3rd, .359) but is struggling on the defensive end in both categories: FG pct. (9th, .477) and 3-pt pct. (T8th, .383)... The Aggies did a good job protecting the ball at Hawai'i, committing just 11 turnovers, tied for its lowest total since the season opener against Southern Utah... UC Davis has eight blocked shots its last three games, matching its total for the first six contests... G/F Josh Ritchart was held to five points at Hawai'i, snapping his string of 10 straight double-digit scoring games going back to last season... After playing just three games over its last 20 days, the Aggies will play three over the next six... UC Davis has made 10 3-pters in each of its last two games, matching the back-to-back double-digits of 14 against Bryant and San Diego State during the opening weekend... The Aggies shot just four free throws at Hawai'i - its second-lowest total of the season - marking the third time they've attempted less than 10.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. UCLA: The Bruins lead UC Davis 3-0 in a series that begain in the 1939-40 season but was discontinued until resuming in 2007... UCLA beat the Aggies 76-48 at Pauley Pavilion on Dec. 29, 2007 and then posted a 74-67 home win on Dec. 13, 2010... Despite the most recent loss, the Aggies received a breakout effort from G/F Josh Ritchart who posted a season-high 23 points while making 9 of 12 shots, including 5 of 6 from 3-pt... UC Davis trailed 40-27 at halftime but outscored the Bruins 40-34 after the break.
UCLA SCOUTING REPORT: The Bruins, who are playing their home games at both The L.A. Sports Arena and Honda Center while legendary Pauley Pavilion is being renovated, have won their past two games to sit 4-5... They've played their last four at home, including a 60-47 win over Eastern Washington on Wednesday... UC Davis lost to EWU 94-74 on Nov. 27... The Bruins are nearly even in scoring (65.9) and scoring defense (66.0) and have held two of their last four opponents to less than 50 points... G LAZERIC JONES (13.3) and F TRAVIS WEAR (10.6) lead UCLA in scoring while F DAVID WEAR (5.6) paces the Bruins in rebounding... Jones made 7 of 10 shots and scored a game-high 19 points in Wednesday's win over the Eagles while G TYLER LAMB added 14 points... Jones (14) and G JERIME ANDERSON (12) are the only UCLA players with at least 10 3-pters... The Bruins are shooting 35.2 pct. from beyond the arc while opponents are making 41.9 pct... Travis Wear has 41 total rebounds but 25 of them have come on the offensive end while JOSHUA SMITH has grabbed 25 of his 44 off the offensive glass... The Bruins were picked to win this year's inaugural Pac-12 Championship.
UC DAVIS ALL-TIME VS. PAC-12: The Aggies have had a rough go through the years against the Pac-12's current members... They are 1-59 all-time with the one victory coming against Stanford in 2005... Here's how it breaks down by school: Arizona (0-1), Cal (0-32), Oregon (0-4), Oregon State (0-1), Stanford (1-16), UCLA (0-4) and Utah (0-1)... UC Davis has never faced Arizona State, Colorado, USC, Washington and Washington State.
HAWAII 74, UC DAVIS 61: UC Davis senior G Eddie Miller had a team-high 16 points and seven rebounds but Hawai'i finished the game on a 23-5 run for a come-from-behind nonconference win at the Stan Sheriff Center on Sunday evening... Miller had a trio of three-pointers to help with his 16 points while guard G Tyler Les hit four three-pointers... After leading 39-34 at halftime, UC Davis trailed 49-46 with 13 minutes, 18 seconds to go in the second... However, F Alex Tiffin scored inside and F Adam Malik hit a straightaway three-pointer to start a 10-2 run that helped deliver the Aggies a 56-51 lead after Miller's trey midway through the half... The Rainbow Warriors, though, scored the next 14 points to lead 65-56 with 3:40 to go. They outscored UC Davis 23-5 over the final 10 minutes of the game, holding the Aggies to just two field goals during that span... The Aggies committed only 11 turnovers, tying a season-low, while G/F Josh Ritchart had a pair of blocks to help highlight his defensive effort. Les, G Tyrell Corbin and G Paolo Mancasola each had four assists.
OFFENSIVE BOARDS IMPROVE: UC Davis had a season-high 13 offensive rebounds in Sunday's loss to Hawai'i, besting the 12 it posted against UC Santa Cruz on Nov. 15... Those are the only two games the Aggies have had at least 10.
TURNOVERS TIE LOW: A season-low tying 11 turnovers at Hawaii matched the Aggies' opening game effort against Southern Utah and reversed a trend in which they averaged 17.5 over their previous two games... UC Davis is averaging 15.3 for the season.
STARTING LINEUP VARIETY: The Aggies have used six different starting lineups through its first nine games with only G Ryan Howley getting the nod for every one so far... Freshman G Tyrell Corbin has started eight, the second-highest total... UC Davis has had a different starting five each of the last five games.
THE LAST TIME: ...UC Davis had just one win after nine games was in 2006-07 when it started 1-10... Eight of the first 11 games were on the road.
ASSIST LEADER: Freshman G Tyrell Corbin has 32 total assists (3.6 pg), nearly twice as many as any teammate and ranking fifth in the Big West.

RITCHART RETURNS: G/F Josh Ritchart, made his true freshman season with the Aggies last year a memorable one, earning Big West Co-Freshman of the Year and Freshman Mid-Major All-America (CollegeInsider.com) honors after averaging 7.9 ppg and 2.5 rpg... He ranked second in the Big West in three-point pct. (.409) and had a breakout game at UCLA when he scored 23 points (9 of 12 FG).
REPLACING SCORING PUNCH: UC Davis lost its top two scorers to graduation in G Mark Payne (15.5 ppg) and G Joe Harden (14.9), both now playing professionally... The duo represented 42.7 percent of the Aggies' scoring last season... However, UC Davis returns the next eight scorers on the list, led by G Eddie Miller (12.5) who was third overall.
NBA PEDIGREES: UC Davis features three players whose fathers have played in the NBA... G Tyler Les is the son of head coach Jim Les who spent seven seasons in the NBA, including four with the Sacramento Kings; G Tyrell Corbin is the son of current Utah Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin who played 13 years professionally; and G Corey Hawkins is the son of former NBA sharpshooter Hersey Hawkins, currently an executive with the Portland Trailblazers... Hawkins, who transferred from Arizona State this fall, will not play this season due to NCAA transfer rules... He'll have three years remaining.
FIFTH YEAR IN BIG WEST: The Aggies enter their fifth season in the Big West Conference after officially joining the league in 2007... UC Davis is 21-43 (.328) in its previous four seasons, earning trips to the conference tournament in 2009 and 2010, the latter when it advanced to the semifinals... The Aggies are 46-84 (.354) at the Div. I level overall... They had a program-best 14 wins in 2009-10, finishing 14-18 overall.
ROSTER MAKEUP: Ten of UC Davis' 15 players are underclassmen... Broken down, the Aggies' roster is comprised of four freshman, six sophomores, three juniors and two seniors.
COMING VIA TRANSFER: Four players have made their way to UC Davis from other schools, three of them from Div. I programs... G Eddie Miller (Cal), F Harrison Dupont (The Citadel) and G Corey Hawkins (Arizona State) are four-year transfers while G Paolo Mancasola is a JC transfer from Shasta College, although he did redshirt a season at the University of San Diego.
LES ASSEMBLES STRONG STAFF: HEAD COACH Jim Les went near and far when putting together his assistant coaches... Kevin Nosek, a member of the Aggies' 1998 NCAA Division II Championship team, returns for his ninth year with the program while fellow alum Gus Argenal, who graduated in 2004, is back for his second stint with UC Davis... He was most recently at Chico State... Veteran Chris Davis, who Les faced in the Missouri Valley while he was at Bradley and Davis at Drake, joins the Aggies after three seasons in the Big East at Providence where he was the Friars' recruiting coordinator.
CHALLENGING SCHEDULE: UC Davis' schedule has it facing 2010 NCAA Tournament teams San Diego State, UCLA and UC Santa Barbara (twice) during the 2011-12 season while facing Pac-12 member Stanford at home (L,70-49, Nov. 18)... The matchup at UCLA will be played at Honda Center in Anaheim, site of the Big West Tournament... SDSU earned a spot in the Sweet 16 last season... The Aggies will face teams from The Summit League and Northeast, Big Sky, Western Athletic and Pac-12 conferences.
UC DAVIS SIGNS THREE: The Aggies announced G DARIUS GRAHAM (Sacramento HS, Sacramento, Calif.) and F TYLER OTT (Desert Hills HS, St. George, Utah) signed National Letters of Intent during the first day of the signing period on Nov. 9 and then added G OLIVIER-PAUL BETU (Worcester Academy; Worcester, Mass.) this past Wednesday... Graham averaged 10.6 ppg and was an All-Metro Conference first-team pick last year while helping the Dragons to the NorCal Regional semifinal final... Ott averaged 14.6 ppg last year and is an all-state honoree at Desert Hills... Betu, originally from Montreal, is the fourth-rated guard in Canada's prep class of 2012 and the 18th-rated player overall... He averaged 15.1 ppg. and 5.1 assists last year.
SYPKENS OUT FOR SEASON: Head coach Jim Les said that G Ryan Sypkens will be sidelined the remainder of the season due to injury (knee)... Sypkens averaged 14.5 points over the first four games of the season... Sypkens will seek a medical hardship waiver to help the junior guard preserve a season of eligibility.
SILVA LEAVES PROGRAM: Senior G Ryan Silva has decided to leave the program...He appeared in four games this season averaging 0.8 ppg and 8.0 min/game.
LOOKING AHEAD: UC Davis continues its five-game roadtrip when it travels to face San Jose State (3-7) on Tuesday before going directly to face Southern Utah (4-5) on Thursday... It'll be the first matchup with the Spartans in 25 years and the second with the Thunderbirds in just over a month.
