Anthony Soto begins his first year as the offensive staff's quality control assistant, joining assistant coach Kevin Daft as an Aggie alum on the football staff. Soto, who will assist the offensive coaches in film breakdown and game-planning, is a familiar name to many UC Davis football fans after catching 107 passes for 1,269 yards and 10 touchdowns while playing for the Aggies from 2009-2012.

He had a career-high 44 catches for 551 yards during his junior season in 2011, including scoring two touchdowns against South Dakota. Soto followed that outstanding season with 27 receptions for 312 yards and a team-high four touchdowns as a senior.

Soto graduated from UC Davis last June with his bachelor's degree in community and regional development. He coached high school football in Fresno during the fall.

"When the opportunity came up for Anthony to be a part our family, I jumped at the opportunity," said head coach Ron Gould. "When I met with him I was very impressed. I didn't know him before he came in but I had the opportunity to watch him on film and saw that he was very competitive.

Soto joined the UC Davis football staff during Winter 2014.
