Veteran of football staffs at Cal and Utah will oversee the Aggies' offensive line
Matt Wiegand, part of football staffs at Utah and Cal over the past four seasons, joins head coach Ron Gould's staff for 2013 and will oversee the offensive line. Gould announced Wiegand's appointment in January.
Wiegand spent the past two seasons at Cal as a graduate assistant, joining the Bears' program after two years at Utah where he worked with the offensive line in 2009 and 2010. Wiegand was a part of two bowl teams at Utah. The Utes captured the 2009 Poinsettia Bowl before being invited to the Las Vegas Bowl a year later.
He held similar responsibilities at Cal, also helping coach the tight ends. Wiegand was a member of the Cal coaching staff alongside Gould.
He coached two seasons at Arcadia High School in Southern California before earning his first collegiate position as the offensive line coach and video coordinator for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Wiegand was a coaching intern and operations assistant for the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League in 2008, the same season he was an assistant coach at Occidental College.
He was named to the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team as an offensive lineman at the University of La Verne in 2006 prior to earning his undergraduate degree in movement and sport science in 2007. Wiegand received a master's degree from Azusa Pacific in organizational leadership in 2009.
He and his wife, Brandy, have been married since 2009.
