OGDEN, Utah - Fourteen members of UC Davis football earned a spot on the Big Sky Conference’s 2017 Fall All-Academic team when league officials announced their selections on Monday.
Among the Aggies representing the sixth-ranked public school in the nation, and honored by the conference this season are: graduate student Derek Baljeu (viticulture & enology), seniors Grant Hilton (managerial economics), Erik Holmer (community and regional development), Kyle Sulka (managerial economics), juniors Ryan Martinez (psychology) and Ryan Parenteau (aerospace science and engineering), sophomores Matt Blair (managerial economics), Marcus Cummins (psychology), Nick Fehrenbach (English), Tiger Garcia (managerial economics), Elias Jbeily (biomedical engineering) Max O’Rourke (communication), Wesley Preece (undeclared) and freshman Logan Montgomery (undeclared).
This is the second time in as many seasons that Blair, Garcia, Hilton, Preece and Sulka were named to the All-Academic team; Baljeu, Cummins, Fehrenbach, Holmer, Jbeily, Martinez, Montgomery, O’Rourke and Parenteau are all first time selections.
To become eligible, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Participated in at least half of the team’s competitions; 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.
“I’d like to congratulate each of our student-athletes for their dedication to academic success,” said Commissioner Andrea Williams. “To see our student-athletes demonstrate their hard work and commitment, while performing at a high level academically and athletically is a great achievement.”
