Aggies Football Welcomes 15 In Strong Recruiting Class

Head football coach Ron Gould

Feb. 5, 2014

DAVIS, Calif.
- Given limited time to assemble a 2013 recruiting class after being hired barely six weeks earlier, UC Davis head football coach Ron Gould was still able to bring in a talented group. With a full recruiting cycle heading into this winter, Gould and his staff continued to build a stronger program by welcoming 15 student-athletes, including 14 national letter of intent signees and a mid-year transfer, for the 2014 class that was announced on Wednesday.

The signees joined the Aggie program during the national letter of intent signing period which began on Wednesday.

The recruiting class is highly regarded with 12 of the 15 players rated two stars by Gould's class features eight defensive players and seven on the offensive side. Two defensive linemen, two linebackers, two safeties and two cornerbacks make up the defensive recruits while two quarterbacks, two wide receivers, an offensive lineman, a running back and a tight end are on the offensive side of the ball.

"We brought in a very athletic group of young men at all positions," said Gould. "That was a need that we had to address. We wanted to become more athletic overall. We felt like we've addressed those needs.

"There are certain characteristics that we look for in our student-athletes," he said. "Number one is character, number two are great students, and number three are guys that have some athletic ability because if they have that then it makes our job that much easier. And the fourth thing is we want young men that aspire to be great in all facets of their lives."

Gould feels this year's recruiting class meets those attributes and is excited at the quality of the 15 players.

UC Davis finished its first season under Gould with a 5-7 overall record but won five of its final seven games to go 5-3 in the rugged Big Sky Conference and tie for third.
