DAVIS, Calif. - After graduating from the sixth-ranked public school in the nation with an economics degree, UC Davis football alum Brock Dale will now compete professionally after signing a contract with the Saarland Hurricanes, an American football team based in Saarbrücken, Germany.

“[UC Davis head coach] Dan Hawkins said he is one of the hardest workers on the team and a natural leader on and off the field. That right there is what I’m looking for in an import to the Hurricanes: a high-character young man,” said Saarland head coach Joe Sturdivant.

“He will be a top team player and a reinforcement with his leadership qualities, his mentality and his discipline. With Brock, it’s going to be like having a coach in the field,” he added.

The fact that Dale will serve as a coach on the field for Sturdivant and his staff comes as no surprise to those who interacted with him throughout his three-year tenure at UC Davis. Last season, Dale’s teammates selected his as one of their team captains.

“UC Davis’ coaching staff is excited for Brock, this is his time to compete for a team that is hungry to win,” said assistant coach Cody Hawkins. “He is a great ambassador for the sport, and has the talent to compete and succeed professionally in Europe. If there is one Aggie who should be a coach, it is him.”

Being a team leader is a role that Dale has been comfortable with since he joined the football team at Long Beach City College in 2013. The two-time Southern California Football Association Scholar-Athlete served at the Vikings’ team captain as well before joining the Aggies.

“We hope our paths cross with Brock’s when we visit Europe later this year to foster grassroots development of the sport,” said C. Hawkins.

The Saarland Hurricanes compete in the German Football League, and will kick-off its 2018 schedule on April 21.
