DAVIS, Calif. - Seven student-athletes signed a National Letter of Intent wth UC Davis football during the spring window, as announced by Head Coach Dan Hawkins on Wednesday. With these commitments, 18 individuals comprise the Aggies' 2018 incoming class.
Of Wednesday's group of football standouts, two are junior college transfers and five are high school seniors.
As was the case in December when 11 players submitted NLIs during the early signing period, the seven individuals that joined the program on Wednesday possess similar characteristics to current UC Davis football student-athletes. All are successful in the classroom, on the field, and ready to embrace the program's unique philosophy of uncommon engineering.
"Each of these guys are well-rounded individuals who want to receive a great education," said UC Davis head coach Dan Hawkins.
As is the case with every UC Davis admit, each new Aggie is an exemplary student and prepared to thrive academically at the sixth-ranked public institution in the nation.
By committing to a team that places an emphasis on student-athletes maintaining a quality balance of life between football, academics and receiving a college experience similar to other UC Davis students, Wednesday's NLI class strengthened the Aggies' reputation as a program.
An additional group student-athletes will join the team once workouts commence, leading up to the the team's August 30 season opener at San Jose State.
"We are excited about several key walk-ons who will join the program. Unfortunately we cannot comment now, but will definitely talk about them at an appropriate time," Hawkins added.
With numerous players earning national honors, 46 new program records and the league's top offense, for the first time in program history, UC Davis enjoyed its most successful season in the Big Sky last year.
