DAVIS, Calif. - Joey Lagarbo, an All-Valley Conference defensive lineman at San Joaquin Delta College, has signed a financial aid agreement and will join the UC Davis football program in time for the 2013 season, head coach Ron Gould announced on Monday.
Lagarbo is one of two new players added to the roster, joining freshman defensive back Desmond Lewis from Pleasant Grove High School who enrolled at UC Davis in January.
Lagarbo (6-1, 275) graduated from Lincoln High School in Stockton in 2010 after earning All-CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section, team MVP and All-San Joaquin Athletic Association honors during his senior season when he had 71 tackles and seven sacks. He posted 58 tackles and 5.5 sacks as a junior, earning honorable mention all-league accolades.
Lagarbo moved on to Delta College where he was named his team's outstanding defensive freshman player. He later earned all-conference honors. Lagarbo was an also an all-league wrestler at Lincoln High School who also received an Academic Senate Award as an oustanding student at Delta College.
Lewis (6-0, 175) joined the Aggies' program this winter quarter after graduating from Pleasant Grove in 2012. He earned All-Delta River League first-team honors and was an all-city first-team recipient after collecting 42 tackles, two interceptions and breaking up nine passes.
Lewis added all-league and all-city second-team awards after three interceptions and four pass breakups as a junior. He was a part of three standout Pleasant Grove High School teams that won a CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section Championship in 2010 and went to the title game two other times.
The pair are part of an oustanding Aggie recruiting class that welcomed 13 National Letter of Intent signees on Wednesday.
