Official NFF News Release
IRVING, Texas - Former UC Davis football player and University of Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti will be the second Aggie in the College Football Hall of Fame when he is inducted in December.
Bellotti will join legendary Aggie coach Jim Sochor who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999. Bellotti will be inducted at the National Football Foundation Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 9 in New York City.
Bellotti played as a wide receiver and tight end at UC Davis from 1969-72, helping the Aggies captured the Far Western Conference championship in 1972, under the direction of Sochor, a year after sharing the title.
He also played a huge role in the Aggies' "Miracle Game" in 1971, catching a touchdown from Bob Biggs with four seconds left as UC Davis scored 16 points in the final 20 seconds to beat Cal State Hayward, 30-29.
Bellotti coached at Chico State from 1984-88 before redefining football success at Oregon where he won 63 percent of his games between 1995-2008, amassed an overall record of 137-80-2 and went to 12 bowl games.
Oregon shared the Pac-10 Championship in 2000 and captured a share a year later. His 116 overall wins and 72 in the Pac-12 were most in the league while he was head coach. Oregon also had five first-team All-Americans, five first-team Academic All-Americans and a Heisman Trophy finalist in former quarterback Dennis Dixon.
Bellotti has also served as the chair of the NCAA Football Rules Committee, was on the American Football Coaches Association Board of Trustees and has been a football analyst for ESPN.
Fourteen players and two coaches will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame this year.
