DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis football will face Stanford in a non-conference road game on Sept. 15, 2018, as announced by both schools on Wednesday. This is the fourth all-time Farm vs. Farm matchup, and the first since the Aggies traveled to Stanford Stadium for their 2014 season opener.
"We embrace and welcome the opportunity to compete against outstanding football programs and institutions," said head coach Dan Hawkins. "We hope our alums and fans are just as excited about playing Stanford as we are."
Starting with this year's Sept. 2 season opener at San Diego State, the Aggies will face three FBS opponents in as many years. Future schedules include games against Pac-12 competition in consecutive seasons; after its upcoming contest against the Cardinal, UC Davis will battle Cal in 2019 -- the first head-to-head game between I-80 schools in nine years.
Even though UC Davis and Stanford are separated by just over 100 miles, only three games between them have taken place since they first met in 1932. Seventy-three years after that series opener, the Aggies recorded one of the most memorable victories in program history when the 2005 squad defeated the Cardinal, on their own turf, by a 20-17 score.
Starting with the 2010 season, Stanford has appeared in five Bowl Championship Series games -- it has been featured in three of the last five Rose Bowls -- and posted a combined 76-18 record. Last season, the Cardinal finished with a 10-3 overall record and a No. 12 ranking in both national polls.
