CHARLESTON, S.C. - UC Davis specialist Colby Wadman, coming off a true freshman season in 2013 in which he earned Big Sky honorable mention accolades, was named Wednesday to the CFPA Punter Award Watch List.
Wadman, from Thousand Oaks High School in Thousand Oaks, California, is among 38 returning punters at the NCAA Div. I Football Championship Subdivision named to the watch list. The College Football Performance Awards will honor the top player at each position at the end of the year, utilizing objective rankings.
Wadman earned the preseason recognition after averaging 38.4 yards for the Aggies last season. He had 22 kicks land inside the opponent's 20-yard line and had 19 punts that resulted in fair catches.
His punting helped UC Davis lead the Big Sky and rank second nationally in punt return defense at 1.68 yards per return. Wadman had a long punt of 55 yards at Nevada in the second game of the season.
Wadman is among nine Aggies who return this season after earning All-Big Sky awards last year. UC Davis, picked seventh by the media and ninth by the media in the Big Sky preseason polls, will begin practice for the upcoming campaign on Aug. 4.
The Aggies won five of their final eight games in 2013, finishing 5-7 overall and in a tie for fourth in the Big Sky at 5-3.
