NAPERVILLE, Ill. - UC Davis quarterback Randy Wright has been named the Great West Conference Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Sunday.
Wright, a sophomore from Santa Rosa, led the Aggies to a 38-17 win over UTSA, throwing for a career-high 320 yards and three touchdowns. In finding eight difference receivers, he completed 18 of 30 passing attempts with a long of 50 yards. Wright helped the Aggie offense score 38 unanswered points after the first quarter with touchdown passes of 18 yards, 46 yards and 21 yards.
Cal Poly defensive lineman Kyle Murphy received the defensive honor and South Dakota punter Cole Zwiefelhofer claimed the award for special teams. Murphy was outstanding in the Mustangs' 31-27 win over defending GWC champion Southern Utah, recording three sacks and forcing two fumbles. And despite the Coyotes' loss at Illinois State, Zwiefelhofer was a bright spot, punting five times for 253 yards for a 50.6 average.
