NAPERVILLE, Ill. - UC Davis' Chris Carter and Utah Valley's Mary Nothum have been chosen the Great West Conference Student-Athletes of the Month for their performances during the month of September.

Student-athletes from all conference-sponsored sports are eligible for nomination.

Carter, a senior wide receiver from Danville, Calif., caught 33 passes for 308 yards (11.0 rpg, 102.7 ypg) in the Aggies' three games in September. He also returned six kickoffs averaging 20.5 yards per return and averaged 143.7 all-purpose yards. Carter received Great West Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors after breaking a school record with 18 catches for a career-high 190 yards vs. Montana. His catches led the FCS in September.

On the women's side, Nothum won the Montana State Cross Country Invitational, was second at the Wyoming Invitational (including running the second fastest time ever at the meet), and finished sixth at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota. She was UVU's top finisher at all three cross country meets in September and led the Wolverines to a fourth place finish out of 18 teams at the Roy Griak, a race that featured two Top10 teams and another Top 25 team as the only teams to finish ahead of UVU. The junior from Washington, Mo., led the Wolverines to a second place finish at both the Wyoming and Montana State Invitationals and was twice named GWC Runner of the Week in September.

Other standout performances nominated for the men were Daniel Martinez (HBU Cross Country), Joel Schwenzfeier (North Dakota Football), Noah Shepard (South Dakota Football), Cade Cooper (Southern Utah Football) and Chase Englestead (Utah Valley Cross Country).

Nominees on the women's side included Sarah Hazlewood (HBU volleyball), Renata Pandolfo (NJIT volleyball), Britta Hanson (North Dakota Volleyball), Sasha Bender (SCSU Soccer) and Kristen Kritenbrink (South Dakota Volleyball).
