DAVIS, Calif. - Against Cal Poly in last weekend’s Battle for the Golden Horseshoe, Jake Maier, a sophomore majoring in economics, threw four touchdowns and finished with a career-high 459 yards to help UC Davis record a three-point victory against its Central Coast rivals. And with that performance, the La Habra native is one of five FCS players football fans can vote for Week Nine’s HERO Sports Offensive HERO of the Week.

Maier connected with Wesley Preece and Aaron Moore for two touchdowns apiece to help the Aggies record their first home victory over the Mustangs since 2011.

His 459 passing yards are a new Big Sky era record, and stand third on the all-time list behind Kevin Daft's 495 yards against Southern Utah in 1998, and Daft's 482 yards at New Haven in the 1997 NCAA semifinals.

Fans can vote once per hour until this week’s window closes at 10 a.m. (PT) on Friday.

UC Davis will travel to Pocatello, Idaho, on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. (PT) kickoff against Idaho State inside Holt Arena.
