DAVIS, Calif. - By throwing four touchdowns and finishing with a career-high 459 passing yards in last weekend’s Battle for the Golden Horseshoe victory, sophomore economics major Jake Maier earned Offensive Player of the Week accolades from the Big Sky when the league’s weekly award winners were announced on Monday. Maier can add another two honors to that list thanks to STATS FCS and College Sports Madness, two national media outlets that bestowed FCS National Player honorable mention and Big Sky Player of the Week acclaim respectively.
His 459 passing yards are a new Big Sky era record, and stand third on the all-time list behind Kevin Daft's 495 yards against Southern Utah in 1998 and Daft's 482 yards at New Haven in 1997 NCAA semifinals.
The La Habra native’s efforts helped UC Davis collect its fourth overall win of the season, matching the number of victories against Division I teams earned by it in the previous two seasons combined.
When the Aggies head to Pocatello, Idaho, to play at Idaho State in Saturday’s league matchup, Maier will enter with top FCS individual stats in five categories: No. 2 in completion percentage (.706), No. 4 in total passing yards (2,675) and passing yards per game (334.4), No. 5 in completions per game (26.38), and No. 7 in total offense (333.3 ypg).
Kickoff from Holt Arena will take place at 1:30 p.m. (PT), in addition to Pluto TV’s broadcast, audio, video and live stats links are available at UCDavisAggies.com.
