DAVIS, Calif. - By collecting more that 60 percent of a national vote, sophomore quarterback Jake Maier has been named Offensive HERO of the Week, by HERO Sports.

The sophomore economics major was one of five FCS players from across the nation nominated; by throwing four touchdowns and finishing with a career-high 459 passing yards, Maier was this week's clear-cut winner.

Those 459 passing yards are a new Big Sky era record, and the third-highest total posted in program history, trailing Kevin Daft's 495 yards against Southern Utah in 1998, and Daft's 482 yards at New Haven in the 1997 NCAA semifinals.

UC Davis, the sixth-ranked public school in the nation, captured its fourth overall win of the season, matching the number of wins against Div. I teams in the previous two seasons combined.

When the Aggies head to Pocatello, Idaho, to play at Idaho State in Saturday’s league matchup, Maier will enter with top FCS individual stats in five categories: No. 2 in completion percentage (.706), No. 4 in total passing yards (2,675) and passing yards per game (334.4), No. 5 in completions per game (26.38), and No. 7 in total offense (333.3 ypg).

Kickoff from Holt Arena will take place at 1:30 p.m. (PT), in addition to Pluto TV’s broadcast, audio, video and live stats links are available at

Providing a small-town community feel while providing a world-class academic experience, UC Davis is home to more than 37,000 students and centrally located between San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, and the Napa Valley.
