NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Quarterback Randy Wright has been named Great West Conference Offensive Player of the Week and defensive end Tommy Grillo earned defensive honors after the Aggies' 24-17 upset of Cal Poly, it was announced by the league office Sunday.
Wright, a sophomore QB, led UC Davis to a 24-17 upset win over the Mustangs, who were previously undefeated in Great West play. Wright completed 14 of 20 passing attempts for 203 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for 22 yards. He was sacked just one time and committed no turnovers for the game. In the Aggies’ first drive, he was 5 of 5, to go along with a 10-yard run and a touchdown pass. Wright led UC Davis in two other scoring drives in the first half, as the Aggies took a 21-3 advantage at the intermission.

Grillo, a senior defensive end, led a UC Davis defense that held Cal Poly to just three first half points and forced two turnovers. Grillo recorded eight total tackles, five of which were solo stops and posted a career high 2.5 sacks for 16 yards lost. Grillo also had a fumble recovery in the first half, which he returned eight yards.
