DAVIS, Calif. - Sean Davies, recently named to the All-Big Sky Conference first team, added another football honor with his selection to The Sports Network/Fathead.com All-America second team, it was announced by the media organization on Monday.
Davies, a 6-foot-4, 297-pound senior from Westlake Village, Calif., started all 11 games for UC Davis this season, capping his career with 43 starts in 43 games played. He helped UC Davis improve its rushing average by 41.5 ypg. this season, including gaining 331 yards at Idaho State in October.
Davies, also a team captain in 2012, has enjoyed a standout career for UC Davis both on and off the field. He's been honored three times on all-conference teams including twice by the Great West and this season by the Big Sky.
In the classroom, the political science/history double-major carries a 3.49 GPA and will finish his studies this quarter. He's earned three Great West All-Academic honors and was UC Davis' nominee for the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award.
Davies is the first UC Davis offensive lineman to receive Sports Network All-America recognition since guard Jonathan Compas (third team) and center Tommy Hernandez (honorable mention) picked up honors in 2008.
The Big Sky led all conferences with 16 selections to The Sports Network All-America teams, just ahead of the Southern Conference which had 15. The Sports Network administers the primary All-America teams for FCS football and presents the national player awards.
