DAVIS, Calif. -
Ten standouts from California and the Pacific Northwest are the newest members of UC Davis football after signing National Letters of Intent. Everyone that comprises head coach Dan Hawkins' second signing class will join the team for preseason workouts next year with four years of eligibility.

The Aggies received commitments from four defensive backs, two wide receivers, two offensive linemen, one defensive lineman and one linebacker on Wednesday.

As is the case with every UC Davis admit, each signee is an exemplary student and is prepared to thrive academically at the sixth-ranked public institution in the nation. This class is also ready to embrace the program's unique philosophy of uncommon engineering to strengthen its reputation for excelling on the field and in the classroom, which will ultimately lead to an unrivaled undergraduate experience.

In addition to breaking single-season and career records, the newest members of the program possess an extensive list of MVP, all-conference, all-region, all-area and all-state awards. Multiple signees also earned letters in additional sports, such as rugby, volleyball, track and field, basketball, and baseball.

Outside of competition, these student-athletes held leadership positions, participated in school clubs and organizations, invested ample time volunteering for local organizations and earned memberships in various academic entities like the California Scholarship Federation.

An opportunity to compete for a program on the rise, that emphasizes a quality balance of life between football, academics, and a college experience similar to other UC Davis students -- no other FCS school in the nation will reschedule its off-season workouts accordingly to allow its players to study abroad during the spring and/or summer terms -- is a key reason why the Aggies were able to build a successful, and talented class during the early signing period.

Is is this unique philosophy that is the foundation for the program, which led to UC Davis enjoying its most successful season in the Big Sky last year. In addition to setting 46 new records, the Aggies ended the 2017 campaign as the league's top offense, for the first time in program history, with numerous players garnering national accolades.
