Aggies Fire 6-Under 282, Sit In 16th Place After First Day At Taylor Made

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - Oklahoma State University fired an opening round of 24-under par, 264 and holds a one-stroke lead over Southern California following the first day of play at the 2005 Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate, played on the par 72, 6,791-yard Waikoloa Village Golf Course.

UC Davis shot a 6-under par, 282, and finished the first day in 16th place, 18 strokes off the lead.

Augusta State fired a round of 270, 18 strokes under par, and is in third place, while a trio of teams, Kansas, Colorado and Washington, each fired 16-under 272's and are tied for fourth.

Individually, three players sit on top of the leaderboard after the first round as Emmett Turner of Augusta State, Tyler Leon of Oklahoma State and Kansas' Tyler Docking each shot 8-under par, 64's. Another threesome sit one stroke off the lead as a pair of Southern California players, Taylor Wood and Bradley Shaw, along with Oklahoma State's Ryan Posey, shots opening-rounds of 65.

The Aggies were led by Erik Hill's three-under, 69, on Wednesday. Hill is tied for 31st after the first day while teammate Louie Bishop is one shot behind, tied for 49th, after opening with a two-under, 70. Senior Jay Westerlund was the third Aggie to finish the round under par, coming in at 71, tied for 59th, while Steven Strong shot an even par 72 to finish tied for 71st while senior Eric Restrepo finished tied for 94th after a first-day 74.

Play continues at the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate with 18 holes on Thursday.
