SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Junior Josh Williams fired a 2-under par, 70, in the second and final round to highlight UC Davis' showing at the teo-day San Diego State Invitational Sunday at the Lake San Marco County Club in San Diego.
UC Davis finshed the tournament in fifth place with a team score of 594. Saddleback captured the title with a 6-under par, 566, followed by Cal State Bakersfield (581), San Diego State JC (583), Arizona State JV (591) and the Aggies.
Williams finished the 36-hole event at 1-under par, 143, the only Aggie to finish under par. Junior Jay Westerlund came in at 148, followed by sophomore Eric Restrepo (152), freshman Jason Gambonini (152) and sophomore John Lawson, Jr., 161. Freshman Brett Borchers competed as an individual, recording a two-round score of 152.
"It was a good tournament to see Josh establish himself on the team," said Aggie Head Coach Cy Williams. "We knew he was a great player coming him and he spent a lot of the fall getting acclimated to school. Now he is balancing those two things well and that is a big plus for the team."
UC Davis will next be in action on March 10 when it competes in the Sacramento State Invitational on the Rancho Murieta north course.
