RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. -- UC Davis senior Louie Bishop fired a 4-under par 68 for the second consecutive day on Tuesday to finish at 7-under 209 and win medalist honors at the University of San Diego Callaway Invitational, as the Aggies shot a tournament-low 282 in the final round and jumped six places to place fourth.
The tournament title was the second of Bishop's standout collegiate career joining medalist honors captured at the Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by UC Santa Barbara in 2005. Additionally, he carded his seventh round in the 60's during the 2006-07 season while doing so twice in the same event for the first time. He's had at least one sub-70 round in six straight tournaments.
Bishop also had 14 birdies, tied for second-most in the 81-player event. The tournament was contested at the 6,911-yard The Farms Golf Club.
Matt Marshall also had an impressive 68 for UC Davis on Tuesday and tied for eighth at 1-under, while freshman Phil Huffman and junior Nate Pistacchio contribued to the Aggies' 6-under 282 with rounds of 72 and 74, respectively.
Bishop made his charge during Tuesday's final round after beginning the day tied for fourth place at 3-under, two shots off the pace set by Andrew Landry of Arkansas and Bryce Easton of Texas-Arlington. However, he matched his 68 during Monday's first round with another over the final 18 holes to post a one-shot victory over Jamie Puterbaugh of San Diego State, who finished at 6-under 210. Landry took third at 211.

Bishop's 209 was his second-lowest 54-hole total of the season but his lowest score in relation to par, besting the 5-under 211 he had at the Opus NW Husky Invitational in November and the 4-under 206 he had in his most recent tournament, the Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate in early February. He also finished 4-under at The Prestige at PGA WEST, which was co-hosted by UC Davis in October.
San Diego State won the team title at this week's tournament, shooting 285 on Tuesday. UC Davis, however, had the best round of the 15-team tournament, posting a 6-under 282 to move from 10th place after Monday to fourth in the final standings.
Marshall was another large reason for the late surge by the Aggies as he fired a 68 for the second consecutive tournament. Marshall finished at 1-under 216 at San Diego, jumping from a tie for 19th place after 36 holes to a tie for eighth after 54 holse. It was the second time in the past three tournaments that the Aggie junior has finished under par, also doing so at the Barona Collegiate Cup last October when he was two-under.
Huffman finished in a tie for 46th while Pistacchio, who also had a 74 in the opening round, tied for 54th. Freshman Kelvin Lo tied for 75th after his 78 on Tuesday, his best round of the tournament.
UC Davis is off until competing at the Stevenson Ranch Invitational, hosted by the University of Colorado, on March 26-27. The tournament will be played at Stevenson Ranch, Calif.
