BANDON DUNES, Ore. - Matt Seramin had seven birdies and played the front nine of Bandon Dunes Old Macdonald Golf Course two shots under par, finishing with a 2-under 70 and leading the UC Davis men's golf team during the second round of the Bandon Dunes Championship on Saturday.
Seramin moved up 41 spots in the individual standings after his strong round and is tied for 33rd at 5-over 149. UC Davis shot 11-over 299 and is in ninth place, 19 shots over par. Tyler Raber and Ben Corfee added 76's for the Aggies while Jonny Baxter had a 77 and Matt Hansen carded a 79.
Colorado opened a six-shot lead in the team standings at 1 over with San Jose State in second at 7 over. Oregon is one stroke back in third while Missouri-Kansas City is 12 over and in fourth. The Aggies are in a tight group of six teams separated by just six shots. UC Davis trails third-ranked Washington by one stroke and is ahead of UNC-Wilmington by one.
Seramin's 2-under day began with four birdies on his first nine holes, including the opening par-4 1st. He moved two shots in the red after birdies on the seventh and ninth holes. Seramin eventually fell back to even but birdies on two of his final three holes pushed him back below par.
Raber also began his day with a birdie and was 1 over after the front nine, adding a birdie on the 17th hole. He's tied for 19th, just three shots over par. Corfee, who is tied for 43rd at 6 over, was 1 over on the front nine to help highlight his round. Baxter's 77 included two birdies. He's tied for 78th at 13 over while Hansen, who had two birdies in his round, is tied for 53rd at 7 over.
Byron Meth of Pacific had a 4-under 68 on Saturday and is 4 under, 1 shot ahead of Troix Tonkham of Fresno State.
The final round will have a 9 a.m. shotgun round on Sunday. The Aggies will play with UCLA and Washington.
