BANDON, Ore. - Sophomore Luke Vivolo carded eight birdies en route to a career-best 4-under 67 on Monday and is tied for third, while Matt Hansen is tied for sixth as the UC Davis men's golf team rallied into third place after two rounds of the Bandon Dunes Championship.

UC Davis began the day in a tie for seventh but used a 4-over team score of 288 to head into Tuesday's final round 12 shots over par and only two back of second-place Utah Valley (+10). Missouri is the leader at 3 under.

Vivolo, whose previous career-best was a 69 at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic two years ago, jumped into a tied for third at 2 under after his spectacular round. Hansen, who had a 72, is even and among a select group of seven golfers at par or better.

Ben Corfee also posted a 72 in the second round and is tied for 23rd at 4 over, Jonny Baxter is tied for 48th at 10 over after a 77, and Joshua Granger is tied for 80th after shooting 80.

"It was awesome to see Luke have a good round," said Aggie coach Cy Williams. "We have ourselves in good position. This will be a good one to go finish up strong tomorrow."

Vivolo's best round this season was a 70 during the final round of the Prestige at PGA WEST last month. A card filled with red numbers on Tuesday changed that. Starting on the 17th hole, Vivolo had two early birdies and then added two more on the Pacific Dunes course's sixth and ninth holes to help him fo three under.

The latter of those two birdies started a stretch of four straight that put him 6 under with five holes remaining. A birdie and three bogeys brought him in with a 67. Vivolo is tied with Alex Bungert of Saint Mary's. Washington's Jonathan Sanders (-4) had a one-shot lead over Emilio Cuartero of Missouri (-3).

Hansen's 72 was fuled by two birdies and 14 pars to help counter two holes where he had at least a bogey. He played his final nine holes a shot under par and is at par for the tournament. Corfee matched Hansen's score by collecting three birdies, 11 pars and four bogeys. He had two birdies on his first two holes - the par-4 15th and the par-4 16th - and added one later on the par-4 sixth.

Baxter had two birdies and played both sides of the course 3 over while Granger was just 1 over on his final seven holes.

The Aggies currently lead three teams ranked ahead of them in the Golfstat rankings. Sixteenth-ranked Washington (+13) is in fourth, No. 48 Colorado (+14) is fifth and No. 39 Oregon is tied for sixth.

The final round begins at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday with UC Davis playing alongside Washington, Utah Valley and Missouri.
