Oregon Duck Invitational Results
EUGENE, Ore. - Ramie Sprinkling fired a 2-under 70 and fellow senior Nate Pistacchio carded a 71 as the No. 24 UC Davis men's golf team posted the third-lowest score of the day to jump three spots and finish fifth at the Oregon Duck Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
The Aggies, who entered the day 27 shots over par and tied for eighth with Idaho, didn't give any strokes away in the final round, finishing with an even-par 288. That score, eclipsed only by winner Washington's 278 and runner-up Oregon's 284, helped UC Davis move past No. 29 Pepperdine, Washington State and Ala.-Birmingham.
Sprinkling and Pistacchio also moved up the final player leaderboard with their strong final rounds. Sprinkling, winner of two tournaments this season including the Fresno State Lexus Classic two weeks ago, tied for 35th at 9-over after his 2-under day. Pistacchio, co-medalist at The Prestige at PGA WEST in October, used his 71 to tie for 27th at 7-over.
Sophomore Austin Graham
continued his steady play this week, shooting his second consecutive 74 to tie for 17th at 5-over 221. Brent Booth
had his best round of the two-day event, shooting 73 to tie for 20th at 6-over. Junior Phil Huffman
also had his lowest score, tying for 72nd at 19-over after his 76.
Eighth-ranked Washington more than doubled its seven-stroke lead after the first two rounds with an impressive 10-under score on Tuesday to win by 15 strokes over the host Ducks. The Huskies finished at 5-under 859.
Washington's Nick Taylor, ranked 26th by Golfstat, carded a 68 in the final round to post a one-stroke win at 5-under, edging Jack Dukenminer, the 36-hole leader.
Playing conditions at the Eugene Country Club favored players on Tuesday after they battled rain showers, wind and chilly weather on Monday. Temperatures were near 50 degrees with light winds and no precipitation.
Sprinkling, starting on the 12th hole in the shotgun round, took advantage of the day with four birdies over his first seven holes, including three straight on the 14th through 16th holes. He had pars on nine of his final 11 holes.
Pistacchio had a bogey on his second hole but birdied the par-5 16th and par-3 2nd to send him in the red. Booth had three birdies, Graham had one and Huffman had 13 pars.
UC Davis is off until competing in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Scottsdale, Ariz., on Apr. 6-7.
