Aggies Increase Lead Following Second Day At Diablo Grande Intercollegiate

PATTERSON, Calif. - Senior Jay Westerlund shot the day's low round of even-par, 72, and the Aggies increased their lead to 13 strokes over Drake University following the second day of play at the Diablo Grande Intercollegiate, played Monday on the par 72, 7,018-yard Ranch Course at Diablo Grande.

The Aggies shot 299 in the second round, the only team over the first two days to break 300, and now have a two-day score of 600, 13 strokes better than host Drake (613), DePaul (614), which began play tied for second just three strokes off the lead, shot 310 for Monday's round and are third place. Jackson State (619) and Cal State San Marcos (628) round out the top five.

Individually, Westerlund's score of 72 on Monday was the low round of the day by two strokes. His two-day score of 2-over, 146, is just one shot off the pace of teammate Louie Bishop, who fired a 2-over, 74, on Monday and is at 1-over, 145, for the tournament. Tied with Westerlund in second place is Eastern Kentucky's Nick McDaniel (146) while Jackson State's Harold Villere (148) is in fourth while a pair of players, Jackson State's Pat Kelly (149) and DePaul

's Kyle Patterson (149) round out the top five. Aggie sophomore Steven Strong is tied for 14th after Monday's 74, giving him a two-day total of 154 while senior Eric Restrepo (155) is in 17th place and junior Erik Hill (160) is tied for 35th. Freshman Ramie Sprinkling (156), playing as an individual, is tied for 18th after back-to-back rounds of 78 have his 11 strokes off the lead.

Play concludes at the Diablo Grande Intercollegiate with a final 18 holes on Tuesday.
