Upperclassmen Pace Aggies To Four-Stroke Lead After Two Rounds At Pacific Coast Intercollegiate

LOMPOC, Calif. - Led by a trio of upperclassmen in the top 10, UC Davis held a four-stroke lead over Washington State following Monday's play at the 2005 Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Golf tournament, hosted by UC Santa Barbara at the par 72, 6,670-yard La Purisima Golf Course.

UC Davis (588) shared the lead with Washington State (592) after the morning round but took control in the afternoon as the Aggies fired a 4-over, 292, the low score of the day. The University of Hawaii (594) sits in third place after the first two rounds, six shots off the lead while UC Riverside (597) and Cal Poly (597) round out the top five.

It was a team effort for UC Davis as senior Jay Westerlund led the way with a first-day score of 2-over, 146, four strokes off the lead and tied for fourth place. Junior Erik Hill (147) and senior Eric Restrepo (147) are tied for 7th just one stroke behind Westerlund. Sophomore Louie Bishop shot a 77 in the first round but came back in the afternoon to post a 1-under 71, the low Aggie round of the day to finish tied for 13th at 148. Sophomore Steven Strong (158) is tied for 82nd.

Play concludes at the Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Tuesday with a final18 holes.
