SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Ramie Sprinkling and Matt Marshall each shot 1-under 69's on Tuesday afternoon to help rally UC Davis from a five-shot deficit to a three-shot win as the Aggie men's golf team successfully defended its Wyoming Club Classic title at the Talking Stick Golf Club.

The tournament victory was UC Davis' first since winning the same event last year and its second top-two finish in its last four outings. The Aggies finished at 7-under 833.

Freshman Austin Graham - who had a career-low 66 in the second round - and junior Nate Pistacchio - who tied for second at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic last year - each tied for ninth at 4-under 206.

Gregg Button tied for 19th at even-par 210 while Marshall and Sprinkling each jumped considerably in the final standings to tie for 38th at 214 after helping spark the Aggies' comeback with their outstanding rounds. Brent Booth, playing as an individual had 73 in the last round and finished at 218.

"We played just awesome in the middle and towards the end of the round," said head coach Cy Williams. "We were really hitting great shots and playing very well."

Grand Canyon finished second at 4-under 836 for second place with Idaho and Oregon State tying for third at 839. Fifth-place Utah posted an 840, the only other score in the 20-team field at par or better.

UC Davis had a one-shot lead after the first round but trailed by five strokes heading into the final 18 holes after Grand Canyon fired a 6-under 274 in the middle round. But solid rounds by Marshall and Sprinkling - the team's sixth and seventh scores in the 60's at the tournament - combined with 71's from Graham and Button gave the Aggies their second straight 280 score.

Pistacchio, who carded 72 on Tuesday, held a share of the 36-hole individual lead after firing a school-record tying 65 for the second time of his career. His 4-under total matched last year's score when he tied for runner-up honors.

"It's a course where you have to hit it straight," Williams said of the 7,133-yard North Course at Talking Stick, "and he really hits it straight."

UC Davis will be back in action on Apr. 19-20 at the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford before participating in its first-ever Big West Conference Championships.

"This really gives us momentum to work harder the next two weeks," said Williams. "It's fun to really see what they can do."
